Keggie, Jenny and all other eagle-eyed checkers, would you do me a big favour and put your website edits in red so I'll be able to easily see them standing out from all our banter and chat?

    Hi all,

How is everyone, sorry haven't on, problems with family again .
I noticed that you asked if anyone could do a weekly shopping list.I'm on that right now just calculating how much a family would need for a week.

Anyway the website looks amazing weezl, one prob with the pasta carbonara recipe.
    http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-pastacarbonara.html
It says one egg in list of ingredients but none in the method.I never used egg at all when i made at home. Just thought i'd let you know.

    Back on in a bit

This is why we do the testing, Hippeechiq, to iron out those niggly little bits that might reduce Shirl to tears ;) I do hope the mixture was salvageable in the end, cos I found them both delicious .

Well, another tsp of vinegar, another 3 tspns of oil - on top of that already mentioned in previous post - and in desperation, a slosh of water later, I managed to get the mixture to bind and rolled out.

I put them in the oven with very low expectations, and you know what? they taste bloomin' gorgeous, although, on cooling, they have become so "short" that they stick to your teeth when you eat them :rotfl:

Would definitely like to make them again so if you could let me know the amounts of water both recipes should have in them, that'd be great :) Then I will give them a whirl again tomorrow and have a bash at the Tomatoey Scones too.

Weezl I think the recipe would be fine with water added to the ingredients listed, although people would still need to know how much water to add, unless it's a case of just adding enough water until mixture binds and forms a ball of dough? And I would have thought the Tomatoey Scones would need considerably more water to make them bind because of the quantity of Ready Brek involved.

Am I the only person who's had a problem when testing them?

ETA: I've also just noticed that Tomatoey Scones list milk in the method too, but it's not listed in the ingredients - sorry

weezl, I wasn't exactly sure how you wanted to break down the list, but I think I've made assumptions that I hope are fair. I've assumed that people generally have good cupboard/dry storage space but might be short on fridge/freezer, so those are the items that got broken down into "weekly" lots. Hello everyone I have had quite a few pages to catch up on after being away for the weekend. It all really seems to be coming together nicely now.

Years ago when we were at our lowest level financially I made cheese scones to go with hm veg soups to fill us up and get some more protein in. They are quick and easy to make as well as being cheap. In later years I made them in a combination oven which cooked them really quickly and they were a success too. Also I found out last year that American "biscuits" that are served with stews etc. are actually scones.

I have been having a quick look at the recipes on the website weezl.

One idea I have had (with which you may disagree ) is to say at the beginning of the method when the oven is to be used to preheat oven to no? temp? And also to grease tray , dish or whatever needs to be done.

The other would be to maybe consider listing equipment needed along with ingredients. I don't know if you have the space to do it. I know it made cooking easier to be able to get everything out first and maybe not to get to 'put your pastry in your flat bottomed dish' to realise you don't have one available. Or is it only me who does that. Mine was in the freezer with a crumble in it.

Has anyone suggested putting imperial as well as metric measurements. You may already have discussed these things and decided not to. Useful for older Shirls like me.

Shall I have a read through the recipes and then send a pm? Or post on here?
ETA Just read back and see you ask for red!

Onion tart method doesn't mention whether to chop or slice onions. No oven temp in recipe either. Should it say to serve with potato wedges too?

You may need to say to grate the pandano and cheddar in the methods. I know it is in the cooking advice. Believe me, there are those who will try to put it in without grating.

In the method for the carrot cake recipe on the web site, there are a couple of stray capital letters:

Warm the Orange juice in a saucepan

Bake for 45 mins or until Dark golden brown

Dark is also in bold which might be for emphasis....

My husband loved this cake and so did any visiting members of the family this week. So did I - and now there's none left. Oops.
