I had a great time at the party last night. My head is fine thank you for asking Lady Liberty. I left the house at 7.30am yesterday to get to the meet for 12. Got home at 1.45am - must be the longest I have ever been out of the house in a day. The meet was everything I hoped it would be, it was a pleasure to meet you all. I'm glad you all liked DH's goodies.

Re car boots, golden rules I've learned

pack everything night before in car so you can just get in a drive to car boot, saves major stress in the early morning

Have a definite price in mind else you may be like me and get very flustered, maybe write a list down...books 50p each ??? so the kids or OH know what to charge

You will get mobbed when you start to unpack your car. I tend to lock it up and walk off so people can't root through my stuff or get me confused, this is when thieves strike, I had to tell a guy today as people were in his boot rifling through his boxes and bags and some were picking things up and walking off without paying.

Take plenty of change, we had a float of £13.00 today, the float is paid back as is the pitch fee, everything else is profit.

Ditto what Kaz says re food, you profit can be very quickly swallowed up by tea/coffee/bacon buttys. Luckily today I had the van which has a little kitchen bit in so I made coffee and bacon buttys for us and some noodles for DD1 at dinnertime. Also took our own juice.
    Maybe a packed breakfast/lunch and a flask.

Two people is best that way as one can go off and have a shufty whilst the other minds your stall.

Plastic bags, take loads people always ask for a bag.

Ditto re £50 and £20 notes...bit suspect for a small item, avoid if poss.

Pack your car and then pack your tables on top so that they are the first thing out of your car.

Maybe have a rail for clothes, argos do cheap ones.

People seem to love a rummage box, including me, full of tat for say 20p per item in the box

Try not to overload your stall/table too much or people can't see what your selling.

Be prepared for haggling, put it into your pricing, we knew we'd be haggled down so added the extra in for the haggle.

Some people may pretend that they cannot understand you and always offer a £1, and stand there repeating 'pound, pound' don't fall for this, tell them firmly what your price is.

Watch for theives...they do operate, someone nicked a skirt from us today but I didn't see her, DD1 thought she did but she was very quick and walked away so I couldn't be sure.

Have your change box near you and don't let it out of your sight. I made the mistake initailly of having the money in my jeans pockets which meant loads of fumbling, dropping money and generally being disorganised, we always have a money tin or box with a lid which we close after the sale.

Some people are quite ignorant, some people want to chat all day, it goes with the terrority, its good fun though and you feel quite productive because
    1. you've got up early

    2. you've got rid of stuff that has no use to you anymore

    3. you've made some money

    4. you may find some amazing bargains yourself.

    Good luck. xx

oooh, I should try going to a car boot (to buy not sell!). There's a big one 15 mins away on the bus, looks like every other Sunday started back last week...maybe I'll go next Sunday. DH will doubtless hate the idea!!

    Car Boot Tip

I have my money in a bum bag that has lots of pockets so the notes and change get put in different pockets as I go along and then its easier to give back out in change and easier to count at home

    Carrier bags are a must

Be prepared for the hagglers who can get quite rude sometimes - I've told people I'll take it home rather than sell it to them for a silly price, cos they woz rude to me.

    Own food is a must

Have a pee before you go!!!

I put my tables in the car on top of all my junk [precious goods] too

I take a pen, sellotape and paper with me and write out price tickets for bigger stuff and stick them on and always add "ONO" so people know I'll haggle.

I've also looked around the car boot and bought bits and resold at a profit hehe

Kazw - you have a PM - thank you for the message

    Helen x

Toots - glad to hear you had a chilling weekend - do it more often please, and I thank you

Diva - hope you are ok
Rosepink - hope you are ok too
    xxJoxx - dito the above
