cats funny drinkin habits!!!

hi our 1year old cat jess wont drink water out of anything except the bath, when i used to give her water alongside her food she used to tip the bowl up all over the kitchen floor. then every time anyone went into the bathroom she sat in the bath and meowed so we put the tap on running slowly and she drinks it. when i put a small amount of water in the bath it seems to leak out, ive tried all sorts of small bowls in the bath filled with water but she tips them up. ive asked everyone at home to make sure they give her some water everytime she runs into the bathroom but i get worried in case she isnt drinkin enough. anyone got any ideas!

Some cats prefer to drink from running water. Try her with a cat water fountain, you can get them from pets at home.

My cats will all drink from a bowl, but one of them has taken to running to the bathroom every time she hears a tap go on too :P

I think that youtube kitty takes the biscuit for daft drinking habits though..

Edit: btw if you are really worried that she's not drinking enough then you could always add some water to her food. I've done that before, just added a little room temperature water and mixed it in with the food a bit to get the flavour spread around and then put it straight down.. they lapped it up no problem :)

My cat will only drink from the tap in the bathroom sink. I've thought about getting a water fountain, but I've heard that they're noisy, so I don't think she'd like it.

Many cats do not like to drink near where they eat or near where they go to the toilet, in the wild they would apparently keep each activity separate. Also apparently some cats don't like their whiskers touching the sides of the bowl so try a soup plate. If she only likes running water then a water fountain is the way to go!

I am so glad to read this. My cat always has fresh water, in a wide bowl, placed away from food, but chooses to ignore it and drinks from all other places. The bath has always been a favourite and last thing at night when we go to bed she follows us into the bathroom, jumps into the bath and shouts until we turn the tap on (just a drip but it's enough for her). She's been known to come and lap dripping water from my hair when I've been quickly leaning over the bath washing my hair. But the worst is when she drinks from the toilet bowl...she manages to wedge all 4 feet around the bowl and gets her head down to lap up. Trying to keep the seat down with my OH and 2 teenage sons is bad enough..to keep the lid down to keep the cat out is a nightmare!!

I second one poster's suggestion of adding water to her food.
I've done this with mine and they lap up the 'gravy' quite happily.
Does she go outside? One of mine won't drink inside, but will happily drink rainwater from plant pots etc in the garden, so it might be worth making sure there's a container out there she can access.

My cat will only drink water from a bowl if it has been boiled first, but he will drink from a dripping tap (and yes he is a loo drinker too :()

My cat runs into the bathroom after me when I go to the loo so she can drink from the tap :D

Apparently cats cannot see the meniscus (water level) so they find it hard to drink from bowls. Also plastic bowls can leach and make the water taste funny. Keeping bowls topped right up can help sometimes.

Have you tried a deeper ceramic bowl, something that's not so easy to tip over? Lily has one that cost £1.49 from Dunelm Mill lol.
