Buying a House in London

I'm generalising.
You've picked a few expensive areas in what is otherwise full of gang problems & street crime.
South West London has more "nicer" residential areas than other parts of London.
It has a few bad pockets rather than other areas of London which have a few decent pockets.
south of the river is cowboy country - and south west 'nicer', with areas like brixtan, stockwell, lambeth etc etc etc? You want to generalise about 'gangs' and crime etc, then I think most people would start by naming the names I've just mentioned...
South London is a real pita for public transport too - you're ok going north/south, but as soon as you want to go east/west then you're screwed.0 -
Have to disagree with you there! South London is riddled with pockets of crime ridden areas.............Peckham, Lewisham, New Cross, Norwood, Thornton Heath, Norbury, Brixton, Clapham, Oval, Stockwell, Camberwell, Streatham etc...............drugs, gangs, shootings, robberies, run down shops..............far more than North London! If you want a decent part of South London you have to pay dearly for it, or move out further to the Surrey borders...........South Croydon, Purley etc................but there you're talking big money.
How many of those are in south WEST London?
A couple are on the borders the rest are all firmly in south EAST London;)0 -

Brixton & Stockwell may have a SW postcode but they are just a couple of border areas, they boarder SE London.
They are more inner south London.0 -

Which part of London do you like ?
There's many parts of London that I like.
If I had an unlimited budget I'd buy in somewhere like Highgate, Little Venice, Chelsea, Mayfair, Belgravia, Hampstead, St John's Wood or somewhere overlooking the Thames.
On a somewhat lower budget I'd look at Clapham Old Town, Wandsworth Common, Dulwich Village, Putney, Richmond, Notting Hill or Kensington.
I'd also look at Southgate, Palmers Green, Muswell Hill, Winchmore Hill, Blackheath, South Croydon and Purley.
All of those areas are lovely.0 -
I never actually said that Bethnal Green was in central London, I was trying to illustrate that it isn't 'miles out'.
Have you ever been there?

You can of course leave the tube served areas for nw kent, means using rail to central London but only 25 mins service from Sidcup and surrounding areas and easily purchase a 3 bed home under 250k.0

Err, did you actually READ what I wrote?! We were talking North and South London! You said South London is more salubrious the north - and I disagree with you!
Furthermore, you cannot be serious to say that Norbury borders SOUTH EAST London!!! You need a geography lesson! Norbury is not that far from Surrey - HARDLY south EAST London!! Norbury is SW16!
Streatham (big area) also straddles Mitcham - Surrey! Hardly south east London! Clapham borders Balham - which borders Tooting - VERY south WEST!!!
South Croydon and Purley are almost at 6 o'clock on the map of London - can't get more SOUTH than that! They may border Surrey, but they're still in Greater London.
So where exactly would you define South WEST London, hmmm? Where YOU live I expect!0
