The vast majority of homes in London aren't leasehold! Wherever did you get THAT idea?!

Majority of properties in central london are leasehold flats

Neither does insurance and other things cost 3 times more!

Yes it does, I recently moved out of London and my insurance costs have fallen by roughly 1/3rd per policy.

EG. London - 1 bed flat, contents only, about £85pa
In the North East I've insured a 3 bed house, building and contents, for about £100pa

Pet insurances, £15pm in London, just under £6pm in the NE.

There are many other instances I have found where living outside of London is proving much cheaper than I'd expected.

And I'd like to know where all these armed police are!!!!!:rotfl:

You have to be kidding me! Are you visually impaired?

Traffic jams are no more frequent than they are anywhere in the UK! You clearly don't drive. It's utter rubbish to say that travelling just a couple of miles takes 1 hour! What rot! Neither does it take 3 to 4 hours to commute inside London! You clearly don't know London at all.

As already eloquently dealt with by Gambit

As for pollution.....err, where exactly?! Those days are gone!

As already eloquently dealt with by Gambit

Overcrowding??? Where?!!!!! Yes, the tube gets busy in the rush hour...........but that's different to overcrowding! In fact, London is far from overcrowded!

As already eloquently dealt with by Gambit

I think we have already established that there is a different London for every person living in it. You sound as if you move in a more cosseted version of London than many of us.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I'm looking in north London at the moment with a 250k budget - and thats for a one bed flat! I had to give up on my preferred areas of Crouch End and Muswell Hill and am now looking at Bounds Green as you get more for your money there. Still a one bed flat though!!

The way I read Thermidor's posts they were saying Belgravia etc were more expensive than Wansworth Common - and they're right. All lovely areas, but Mayfair is much more expensive than Putney.

MrsE is just being silly about areas and postcodes. South west is south west, and south east is south east. Depending on which part of the postcode you live in you will border west, east. south etc......that's hardly rocket science. ..

My point was south west London is quite a nice quarter with a couple of not so nice areas.
South east London is a p1ss hole with one of two decent areas.
If you want to live in London, south west is greener & more plesant & nicer.
Its really not something you can argue aboutm its not an opinion its a fact. Check out the property prices:beer:
Mitcham, whilst in Merton, does straddle Surrey. Mitcham Common goes all the way to Carshalton, and that's Surrey.

    Really:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Try the LONDON borough of Sutton;)

You see I know London quite well;)
Mitcham, Merton & Carshalton are ALL in London:)

Merton actually straddles Royal London borough of Kingston upon Thames & The London borough of Sutton.

Here is a map of London, because you seem to think a lot of places in south west London are in surrey???

Some good, unemotive and factually accurate posts from Gambit. Very refreshing.

I've lived in Crystal Palce (in SE London, gasp) for the last 8 years and love it. If/when I upgrade it will be a local move. Lots of green space, good transport links, very few smug / yuppie /up their own !!!! types and some nice pubs, restaurants and bars. And I have not been threatened, mugged, stabbed, burgled or been offered drugs once (unlike my mates in some pricey SW London areas). So there you go, maybe my standards are just low, but it works for me?

Choose a vicinity that suits your budget and then research it very carefully and you are unlikely to go wrong.

CARSHALTON is in Surrey. You're making yourself look silly.. A BOROUGH is different to an area or postcode - didn't you know that???:rotfl: I suggest you keep quiet - you're making yourself look very foolish and none too bright.

You sound a very confused person - and it might help you if you learnt how to spell, too.;)

Sounds to me that you're THICK on top of being visually impaired! What a nasty thing to say to a person?! Thermidor must be visually impaired!

Just because YOU mistake gas sprays, communication devices and truncheons for GUNS doesn't mean to say everyone is as dim as you. We do NOT have armed police walking the streets, dear, but maybe where you were brought up they had regular raids? Eh?

Really...? Just think about what you are posting. You are attacking someone mistyping a word because you dont agree with their opinion? London (and probably many parts of the UK) have unclear boundaries so it's always difficult to say what 'London' is and this differs from person to person. For example, when I talk about London I mean central London (and even that is hard to distinguish as its not just zone 1) but others mean Greater London.

So get off your high horse and if you dont have anything useful to add to the conversation please stay quiet or fnid aonhter baord wehre the spllenig is prefcet! (and before you point that out I did that on purpose!!! :p)

There's a difference between having an opinion - and being opinionated. There's also a difference between an opinion - and a FACT!

FACT is that Carshalton is in SURREY. OK?

    Getting desperate now.

Though you can get a 3 bedroom house in Carshalton for less than £250K.

Though the reason is the poor transport links and poor schools.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
