    b) But if you do long journeys with mile upon mile of light-throttle motorway cruising, then you will probably get as good as, or better than the tests.
It's actually even more complicated than this because the EU standardised tests are so contrived.

My Honda CRV 2.2D does 34-35mpg around town (official 32) but on a mixed motorway, A, B and town long holiday trip it's 38-39 as against the official combined of 43mpg. It does get well into the 40's on A roads at 40-60mph but as soon as I get cruising on the motorway at 70-75mph it quickly drops back below 40mpg, even with a light right foot!!

2001 (Y) Vx Astra 2.0DTi - Parkers claims 49mpg, on long runs to work (had a week of doing 800 miles) I brimmed before I set off and brimmed again at 650 miles (light was flashing, only on constantly meaning it wasnt on emergency). 650 miles on 50l = 59mpg - and I wasnt driving particularly sensibly either, they were quite fun back roads and 80mph cruising on the motorway.

On short runs it will get to 600 miles to a tank if you're brave :rotfl:

    2009 Vectra 1.8 petrol estate - computer says 38.8 after 10k (including 2k towing a caravan).
Can't complain really, but next time it will be a diesel (I,m getting lazy).

For any car, with considerate driving, you should be able to achieve 80-100% of quoted figure.

If not, either your driving is bad or manufacturer lied about fuel economy figures.

I was going to have a go about your post but on re-reading I saw the words considerate.....:rotfl:

The one thing to remember is that sometimes the smaller more frugal engine can be false economy if you just try and flog it too hard. It amazing how quickly I can get the fuel gauge to drop in SWMBO Panda....she almost cries when I drive it.....but it can be fun...;)

    +1

We had a 2007 1.25 Zetec Fiesta as a runabout and to keep it going at a reasonably pace it only averaged 28mpg.

Back on topic - i've a Passat 2.0TDI Bluemotion - Official MPG = 59.3, last fill i got 65.1mpg. Long steady runs do it the most favours though.
  • Noble M400, claimed 19mpg. I get 13mpg.

My previous M12 GTO Which I posted on here claimed 23 but I got 25. I don't know where it went wrong!

What they give a figure for track use, ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Thats not even been near a track yet. Not racing this one after my skills ran out in the M12!

If the last one's anything to go by though, two 20 min races would see a full tank gone!

Citroen C5 - claimed 56 - I am getting 54, but this can creep up to 60 on a run. Would probably do a bit better if the OH didnt drive it as she can be a little heavy footed

OH's car - VW Sharan. claimed 42 but never get less than this and can hit 52 on a run - av. per tank around 45
