Yes exactly women are the main conservative voters and the likelihood of people voting increases as they get older, and one of the most cheesed off groups are women in their fifties who were retiring 4 years later but are now retiring 6 years later.
I don't think I'm depressed enough. Maybe I'm distracted by the fact I'm unemployed in the UK's unemployment black hole. Oh joy. My understanding of why the Lords rejected putting the act to committee is that loads of them seem to want to scrutinise it.
Happy Birthday FW

Thank you, my friends, for your birthday wishes - these have been coming through MSE, Facebook, texts, e-mail and Twitter (would you believe). This is all making me feel very warm inside and popular. Which is good since I was never popular in my life - though a close friend claims that I am, I just never noticed it. Technology and friendship form a powerful, potent combination.
I have been having a day that is 'business as usual' except that it isn't. Writing the latest paper has become a real pleasure; it is coming on so well and it is shaping as a very novel and a potentially useful notion in an over exploited field. Selection practices are only to become more wide spread but we still approach selection with tools that are inadequate for the task. Apart from writing the paper, I have noticed that my writing generally has become better and more sophisticated. My spelling isn't but then we cannot have it all; and of course there is technology.
Today I said a firm 'no' twice: once to an invitation to speak at a workshop (nothing in it for me except vanity) and a second time to using an anti-perspirant I actually don't like. It is just that I am realising that I have reached an age where my objectives ought to change from 'being liked' to 'being respected'. Oh, and knowing what I like and having it (within limits but as you know I have worked on my wants so they don't bother me; greed is gone; vanity is going).
Let the day continue as it is and let me have many more days like this one.
Now, it is time for opening a bottle of wine. Or is it?
