Thanks you, WTBF, I'll try this one. At the moment I am prepared to try anything - am so tired. Worst thing is that usually this is how vicious circles begin - I can't sleep because I am thnikng about stuff (not necessarily bad, sometimes it is just puzzling over ideas), then don't sleep enough, can't work well, start worrying about not working, can't sleep etc. Very unpleasant, indeed...
You are also right that I am pushing myself - but stopping this one will take a bit more doing. It is difficult to remember that things come when you have stopped making yourslef ill wanting them. Have been thinking about learning to do meditation - there is a class locally.

You may have noticed that this diary has become somewhat of an institution for me and that I write once a day. Well, very occasionally I write twice. Yesterday I did miss a day for the second time since I started – with very good reason. I had a visitor from Sweden, someone who asked me some time ago to co-edit a book with him. After some procrastination – did you think that I am immune to this one (ha!) – he came over on Monday and we spent two days brain-storming (at least storming when brains were disengaged). We came up with the idea that frames the book and phone the publisher of choice – who sounded very enthusiastic about the whole thing. So, two days spent being productive rather than being busy. He just went to the airport and I feel rather tired; and I still have a lot to do on ‘the paper with the crash landing deadline’.
Interestingly, I have managed to calm down a bit and to sleep – which of course makes it so much easier and pleasant to work. Four things helped with that: 1) Valerian tablets (stink but the best natural thing for wound up people); 2) WTBF’s method of breathing and Thich Nhat Hanh’s ‘Piece is every step’; 3) opening up the issue of priorities in life and re-affirming that papers cannot define me, they are part of the job; and 4) the gentle nudges and the firm support of good friends and family.
Now will have to get back to the job in hand, I am afraid. Do I think that I’ll manage the deadline? Who knows! Do I think it is worth having a go? Hell, yeah!
And the thought for today is:
“When mental energy is allowed to follow the line of least resistance and to fall into easy channels, it is called weakness.” - James Allen

Glad you have managed some sleep FW. Go for that deadline, we are all cheering you on :T.
I really like that quote, would you mind if I snagged it for my signature?

Go ahead, Thrifty. It is a good reminder that we all have weaknesses; and that routines - in thinking or behaviour - may be convenient but they ultimately bring us down. Middle of the road, may be? Establish routines and then break them every so often?

Writing...hateful editing...beer with friends later! I did start at 6 am today so probably some beer at 8 pm will be OK - apart from everything it has been know to facilitate the creative process by getting rid of inhibitions and fears.
If I need to sit here all night - so it shall be.

Good luck dearest Firewalker.
Ps i thought this sabbatical was going to involve some rest. Please remember that. Hugs.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Right! After thirteen hours straight work the paper has been re-submitted on time. Wished for speedy decision.
Now I'll probably have to get drunk; or go straight to bed.
