guess what we are using now? A rabbit drinking bottle, you know one of those upside down bottles ! Not sure how much water he is getting out of it but he seems to like it......currently hanging from washing basket as i have nowhere to hang it.

so this along with his wine glass of water might do the trick!

don't know if this was mentioned bu there are "pet" drinking fountains that circulate water.

I know of a couple of dogs that will not drink from a bowl and this sorted them out.

Never had a cat - my dog doesn't like small furries (sight hound) but if the rabbit bottle doesn't work it might be another option for you.

Cats can be very fussy about where and what they drink from. Three important points (already been touched on):

    1. Never keep the food and water bowls next to each other. In the wild, cats don't tend to drink from areas close to where they eat as such water has a higher chance of being contaminated with animal remains and waste. Ideally, put the water bowl in a separate room.

    2. Cats have to see the surface of the water they are drinking from. This can be difficult in a high-lipped bowl, and explains why they easily drink from mucky puddles etc. Use a very shallow bowl so they can see the surface easily - and remember metal, ceramic and plastic have different 'tastes' which can put off some cats.

    3. Some cats do indeed prefer running water, ie a running tap. Cat fountains can be useful.

Water intake is important for cats who, being a desert species, have a relatively weak thirst reflex. Good water intake can help prevent bladder disease, which is quite prevalent in domestic cats. You can also try adding water or tuna water (in springwater, not brine) to their food to increase fluid intake. Dry-only diets are not recommended for cats for the same reasons - use wet if you can. :)

    Hope some of this helps.

    Thanks for that Shoshannah.

My cat prefers drinking for the dog bowl or a tap and I'm starting to think he prefers the taste of that as his bowl is plastic. Going to but a metallic bowl for him and see how that goes, otherwise I may try a fountain. I really have to watch that he drinks enough as he has had a UTI before.

We feed Lily the Pets at Home dry and wet, she absolutely loves it and its better for our wallets!

As for the water I make sure I let her drink from the tap in the bathroom a couple of times a day, she gets a really good gulp when I turn it on for her and she likes to play with the stream as well haha.

Noah is a really good drinker, he has an IKEA ceramic soup plate which was dead cheap. :)

My cats like drinking water from a skanky old pot in the garden.

I have a jug of water on my coffee table, the cats like to drink from that in doors and from the skanky pot in the garden when they go outside so i have to remember to keep them both topped up.

Pets at home is selling really cheap crockery water bowls - I bought two & am using the extra deep one (apparently it keeps water cool for longer) & my two are drinking well & often from it.

My two's water bowl sits in between their food bowls & it doesn't bother them - however they are both positioned in a tray with raised parts which I place their food bowls on. I started mine off on cat milk with the bowl positioned where the water bowl is now & they never had any problem with food & drink being close together - methinks it's just a matter of changing water frequently & keeping all containers clean tbh.

I feed our two cats Purely from Pets at Home. Usually the 70% chicken one but they also do a Salmon one that's not too bad either, bit lower meat content but still better than most other foods.

I've not tried the wet food. Morrisons have recently started stocking a new wet food called Feline Faire that's 60% meat - it's £1 for 8 pouches! Bargain! :)
