I would imagine makers of computers/online banking will invent something where you can feed your coins into a slot in your computer. lol0

You would need some sort of USB device which could securely "cancel" the coin so it can't be used as a coin again. Perhaps all coins will eventually contain an RFID tag which would store each coin's validity status.0 -

Eventually we will all have microchips in our wrists so no need to carry cash or credit/bank cards around. :eek:0 -
Natwest also have these machines, if you have an account with them. they don't charge anything and it's put straight into your account
That's handy, I didn't know that. I'm a Natwest customer but the only problem for me is that the nearest branch to my home is miles away. In fact, I'm not certain exactly where it might be or whether they actually have a machine yet but on the other hand, my nearest supermarket with a change-machine is two stops away on the bus. Which was about as far as I could manage with nearly seventy quid's worth of coppers and five-pence coins. I do agree that the 7% commission is a complete and utter rip-off but at the time I was glad to turn those coins into cash which I could spend on something useful and necessary when both my bank account and wallet were completely empty0 -

As far as I am concerned that would be wonderful - no more lugging a purse around at the risk of losing money, no having to sort out coinage etc! Would muck up my OH though - he saves coppers and 5ps for Christmas booze! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

The trouble with money being electronic is it is much easier to lose it. With real money in your purse a mugger has to be "up close and personal" to get it, but with electronic money you can be "mugged" by someone on another continent.0 -
The thing with the machines are that the companies that run them have to empty them (probably using some sort of security firm)and then pay them into the bank, which charges them a business rate for both paying in cash and coins so when you add factors like this in then they probably aren't making as much out of it as you think:)"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138
