Wrong - this is a private network.

It's not wrong. Have a look at my network settings (get rid of the gap):

Note how I am on my own private network and using my ISP's DNS's so that my system has means of resolving host names to addresses... 192.168.0.1 is the gateway address and as the Netgear router does not function as a DNS server in any capacity, you need to make sure the settings are correct.

All my netgear routers (& my belkin & dlink routers) all have inbuilt DNS servers.

I apologise - I wasn't tring to confuse or upset anyone. The router is acting as a DNS proxy. I was only trying to help without getting too deeply into the whole networking thing. I still think it would be an idea to check the router settings as the DNS info has to initially come from your ISP therefore, I thought it may be worth doing what I said and rebooting to pick up the DNS info again in case something has gone wrong with the router or it's settings...

At the command prompt do tracert 66.102.9.105 and post the result.

    This was the result:

Tracing route to 66.102.9.105 over a maximum of 30 hops

    1 Destination host unreachable.

    Trace complete.

    Thank you

    Try resetting winsock ~
    1. right click on the cmd prompt and open as administrator
    2. at the commend line type "netsh winsock reset"
    3. Reboot.

Bearing in mind I have now set it to Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically.

There was no option to open as Administrator, I typed in all the above in cmd prompt, but no change.

Do you think we are running out of options and the best bet may be just to reinstall XP?

Sorry.....just tried that, requires password for Administrator which I don't know and don't think my Brother does either!

I know the Router connects fine to another PC on the upper floor and Internet Browsing is fine, and with this PC it is obviously connecting to the Router as well, so is following what Murph71 said at the top of this page to connect the PC to the Router via cable and follow the prompts, not going to make any difference?

Do you think reinstalling XP should do the trick?

You have told us that when you enter the IP address for Google, it displays fine:

That is not the full output from tracert 66.102.9.105 is it? Post unedited screendumps of ipconfig /all and tracert 66.102.9.105
