Where would i stand?

I live with a guy, 'we' bought this house almost 2 years ago, the house is in his name but i signed something to say i'd be living here.
I've paid some small bills since moving in (we moved in together) I also paid out £1000 to have a patio laid last summer (inheritence from my late gran).... as well as decorating the whole house and other such things.... what would i be entitled to if I left? (just found out he's been lying to me) :(

OP....very little, if anything at all!
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

So what your basically wanting is to live there rent free, with little or no bills and then he to pay you when you move out, nice one.

If you purchased items and have got receipts ot prove it then you can take your stuff.

I guess what you signed was his mortgage term stating you would have no claim on the property assuming he has a mortgage?

So you have paid a few 'small bills' and £1000 for a patio yet you think you're entitled to something? How much would you have spent renting a place?

There is no such thing as 'common law'. Sorry but this sort of thing gives us women a bad name. You have lived for much less than it would have normally cost. If you have any children together then things may be different in law with regards to their welfare needs.

No such thing as "common-law husband/wife" anymore.

I didnt say i've paid nothing, i pay towards some bills, water, gas, electric, i paid to decorate the house, and i decorated it, mostly alone... i paid to have the garden done, i paid for the blinds, curtains, soft furnishings...

I cant work as i'm disabled, i'm certainly not a sponger.... i dont pay towards the mortgage but I certainly dont want 'to live rent free' and i certainly dont live here for 'free' ....... what i would like is some of what i've put into this place back.... i lost both my grand mothers last year, they left me some cash which was ALL spent on the house, approx 7k in all, so i'd think i'm entitled to some back dont you?????

I should also add before moving here i rented, and i can honestly say it would have been 'cheaper' to stay where i was rather than moving here, we all move in with someone at some stage but then when things dont work out what do we do, move on, i cant without some of the money back that i've spent here..... i cant exactly take patio's etc with me.... i also paid a builder for damp works last year, that was 2k.... so given we've not even lived here 2 years.....
