So for two years you've posted on here and HPC about house prices, your deposit, how things are going to crash, how you're going to emmigrate... etc. etc. Over 4,000 posts on house price related subjects, probably nearly half a million words.

And now, suddenly, you completely changed your mind and just don't care about losing 60% of all that money you've saved? What suddenly changed in you to make you go from caring about money so much that you didn't spend a single penny on anything more than bare essentials to not caring if you lose tens of thousands? Seems strange to swing from one complete extreme to another. Just curious really.

It strikes me that there is a happy medium in between the middle of these two extremes.

Because imagine you had a dream of your ideal house, for your family and future children. But then imagine, due to greed, that goal was pushed further and further away, for little other reason than GREED. Despite your parents having the opportunity to live that dream on a far smaller salary and working far less hours, you cant live the dream becasue unfortunately Labour were a bunch of C u next tuesdays and pandered to the electorate.

Then imagine, you get a crash, that is stopped by the government, despite doing nothing about rocketing housing inflation for the past 12 years. You were so close, but still couldnt live the dream.

Then, you see a house that is so perfect, so in line with the dream, you are willing to forgo the significant risk of your deposit disappearing. Would you go for it?

Having kept my eye on the market for the past 4 years, I am yet to see a house that is as perfect for our situation as this one. Location, size, potential as well as enough land to do all the things I got the chance to do as a kid, surrounded by farmland and friendly locals to take my kids hunting as I did, raise livestock as I did, all within an hours commute of work. Wouldnt you, despite believing fervently that prices were still going to crash, one that is affordable now.

My recent world view has also changed somewhat.

The Upcoming housing problems will be caused by reduced market liquidity.

That will push up market rates.

QE is going to reverse, pushing up market rates through drainage of liquidity. Interest rates will rise, but will be subdued by reversed QE for quite a while. With everything slotted in place and a pretty good deal off of HSBC, I reckon for ME, the time was right. I could benefit from a further 20% slide, but what will change? I reckon I could be paying significantly higher market rates by that time, so that is a risk I have had to factor.

Oh, apart from that, the missus was wingeing.

It's just a house though isn't it? You sound like you have a wife you love and you're planning to have kids and have a nice little family. Sounds ace, so why the massive issue about where this all takes place? Rented house, bigger house, smaller house, bought house. Does it really matter that much?

You say that you can't 'live the dream', well the dream to me sounds like a healthy, happy family. The place you live is just a pile of bricks where your dream takes place, in my humble opinion.

Again, just my opinion, but there's no such thing as the perfect house. All these idiots on Location, Location looking around 82 houses and rejecting each one because it isn't 'perfect'. If your life is great then the house you live in will seem ace too.

It's a personal thing, but I see loads of places I'd be happy to live. It's just a house. There's obviously boxes to be ticked, but it's just a place to live at the end of the day.

Ha ha! A big explanation of QE, interest rates and comlext economics, but I'd like to bet that this was the main reason. ;)

Thanks for taking the time to reply and enjoy your house.

That'd be ace! I might have an Earl Grey or a Vanilla Latte, but you'd be fine to have an Oligopoly. ;)

In all seriousness, do you have a specific date? Send me a PM if you do.

Not there yet!!! But thanks for the sentiment.

I woke up having a panic attack last night at the thought. I hope thats normal!!!

We have discovered a number of issues that whilst arent insurmountable, are a right royal pain in the !!!!.

For starters, we I have some 30 ft Liliandai bushes to chop down and more significantly the Annex attached to the house has its own Council tax associated with it (banded A, seperate to the house), the thieving beggers. So, having checked the rules, if we cant get a tennant in the next 5 months, the 4th bathroom and second kitchen will be getting ripped out, we will be knocking through a few walls and making a pretty awesome open living area out of it.

Why are the government a bunch of thieving !!!!!!?

The pond will need clearing, and the poor goldfish the family left behind need a well derserved water change and feed. Thats not mentioning the absolute tonne (almost literally) of "stuff" that got left behind that will be going to the charity shop.

Cant wait to complete though. Only problem is, instead of counting up to 100, I am now counting down from 225! How very depressing! We are staying put in our current plot until we can get the place how we want it, for the forseeable.

Soon as we exchange, will be getting a tonne or two of firewood ordered for the burner, the Septic tank drained (dont like the thought of storing someone elses poo) and our first (expensive) fill of LPG, although with the changes we will probably make over the next 12 months, we may go down the Oil fired central heating and cooker route.
