Is it possible to keep current number if buying a phone from mobiles.co.uk
Can anyone tell me how i could keep my number if i were to buy a phone from
mobiles.co.uk, is it possble to do or not,. Ive seen a desire plus contract on the site that id like to get.
On the site it says "
Number Porting
To transfer your existing mobile number to your new phone please request a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) from your current network. Contact your new network with your PAC once your phone has been delivered. You can only port your number is you are changing network providers."
but im not changing providers as im still with orange, could i get a pac code from orange then temporaily change to say t mobile pay as you go then transfer back to orange

In short - yes.
These companies make their money from new contracts. That is how they can supply you with a phone, plus cashback etc and still make a profit.
Note that I wrote "new contract". That only applies if you are a new customer, so you need to do a temporary PAC out to another network - say O2, Virgin, Tesco etc on a PAYG, and then after a couple of weeks, say, get your PAC code from the temporary provider and give that to mobiles.co.uk or whoever.
Note that you need to have the PAC code at the time of order only if you are buying a Vodafone contract - the other network providers let you swap afterwards.0 -
I'd definitely have a look at some of the threads on this site about mobiles.co.uk before I'd consider buying from them...0

I believe you can do this, but double check with T-mob direct. Porting is not really in the realm of the 3rd party phone resellers.
Belt and braces - make sure you inform mobiles.co.uk in writing that this is your intention so that there is no problem when the mobile number changes on the bill.0 -
ta m8 ive tried to check with tmob but they are shut for bank hol today. ill try in morn. would this effect any cash back deal with mobiles. btw where is ben. i also want sorted with mobiles b4 i take this deal out.0

on the mobiles.co.uk site it says reasons cashback will not be paid ifYou do not remain on the original tariff with the original handset and number (or ported).
!!!!!! does that mean. how do they know if you sell the fone.:think:0 -

Language !!!!
It means exactly what it says - the tariff you sign up to must remain in place for duration of contract. If you change the tariff, the cashback cannot be paid. You can basically not drop the cost of the plan. You can add bolt-ons but underlying tariff cannot change.
The business with number changing - I would check with t-mobile to be honest.
Contract phones I think you are likely to be only allowed to change at start of contract (don't quote me on that). Mid contract - think that is not what networks would want otherwise every tom, !!!!!! and harry would be doing it and it would waste the network's time and resource (i.e. swapping numbers every other month).0 -
ta m8. its the issue with the term original handset that sets the alarm bells ringing. i want it in writing from both that i can port mid contract b4 taking this deal out. i know voda has to be done right away but on fone to mobiles and they say it should not be a problem. but we all know about problems and mobiles.lol:D
btw !!!!!! meant why the fone.:D0 -

I believe ya!
Don't think you will get anything in writing.
I am in a similar scenario, got a pac code from t-mobile for a contract ending this month.
Have o2 contract which started in Feb. Now do I ask o2 to take that pac code (I don't know) and I also do not know what dialaphone will think (although I do know they have facility to update numbers on their web site).
Going to try to talk to o2 tomorrow - my suspicion is that it will not be allowed but worth a punt (not desperate to move to that contract - could get another contract and port to that at start).0
