You should only be refunded if you had to cough up extra money eg for flights to get there and back etc0

Equaliser already gave you the answer you need! Google the regulation he quoted and you will get this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_261/2004
Read the sections on cancellation and on compensation and you will know exactly what you are/were entitled to

Cheers again for the help guys.
Am pursuing further compensation in line with the EU regulations.
There is a clause though stipulating they are not obliged to provide compensation based on extraordinary circumstances.
Would a computer systems crash likely allow them to use this claim?0 -

If it was their own system, I can't see how they can apply this as a defence.0 -

That's an interesting question, one which I wondered about when I saw your TT post. Do let us know what happens.0 -
Bottom line is, if it was a cancellation due to a fault with the aircraft, that would not constitute an extraordinary circumstances so I cannot see how a computer issue could.0

I agree, if it was a fault with Air Traffic Control's computers i would say that was an extraordinary situation, as it was their own, they should have had a manual backup (when i worked at NCL airport we always had a backup).0 -
Got this reply:
"To receive EU compensation, there must be certain criteria meet. If the flight is cancelled, passengers are entitled to EU Compensation except when easyJet can prove the cancellation is due to extraordinary circumstance which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken, including but not limited to Air traffic Control, Weather, Civil unrest, Terrorist alerts and Security alerts, Strike action, technical issues and unexpected flight safety shortcomings.
Our booking system has been affected by the unexpected failure, therefore none of the reservations could have been accessed. As a result, the flight was cancelled as we were unable to process the data of the passengers that were booked on your flight.
I am afraid that none of the passengers from your flight are entitled to the above mentioned compensation"
So if I wish to escalate this further...what is the next step?
