It's because for all they know, she's buying the alcohol for you.

Maybe I'm missing something here but what does it have to do with Trading Standards?
Surely Tesco can refuse to serve anyone at all for whatever reason they choose?

I got asked "you are over 18, aren't you" by the assistant in Tesco the other day.

Just use your locals if your moaning.
Over here you need a passport or your Swedish citizenship ID card to buy tobacco , snus , alcohol , but everyone has them so no probs.
Tesco and asda have gone crazy lately it seems so ferk em.0 -
