Asbestos has been in use since at least 1920s and usage only ceased in 1980s/90s.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Who says the asbestos needs removing? Normally if it is not damaged you can safely leave it in place.

Don't get stressy, give yourself a pat on the back for having a proper survey and uncovering this potential issue before you bought the property and before someone inexperienced risked asbestosis. Should be able to renegotiate the purchase price which means the survey pays for itself. :T

Exactly. My last house had asbestos soffits. I lived there for 18 years and there was no problem, in fact its much better than uPVC as it lasts longer.

Asbestos sheeting - which is what was used for soffits, garage roofs etc. - is quite harmless unless you deliberately grind it up into dust and inhale lots of it. Just leave it alone and don't worry!
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

Even council tips will take that type of asbestos as long as it is in a plastic bag.

The doom and gloom merchants on here will frighten the life out of you if you let them.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Worth a read..........

There is no problem with the vast majority of ASBESTOS........In fact asbestos in its basic form comes from the same rock as Talcum powder.......Blue and Brown asbestos are the problem, white which roofing sheets, soffits etc are made from are NOT dangerous, totally different material...
  • Its asbestos cement i have a garage and a boiler flue made from it, locas l tips will take it if you double bag it, but if its not damaged i woudnt touch it.

And has for the electrics need checking by a qualified electrician all surveys have this put on them, its just to cover the surveyors back, your lucky it they usually says to get a plumber to check the boiler, a roofer to check the roof and a damp specialist to check for damp.

A lot of surveyors will put these in the surveys just to protect themselves so i wouldnt worry too much about it.

Umm… You don’t know about talcum???

If used in industry you’d have to wear a respirator, and as for the ladies puffing it about down there…

Don’t use it! Don’t have it in the house!

Google talcum danger if you’re confused…

I am fully aware that ANY powder is dangerous if inhaled for prolonged time, in fact there is more danger in the fact that any powder ,if enough of it in the air is a major danger from explosion. There are dangers we all face every day of our lives, cars, electricity ,water to name but 3.....You gonna suggest I stop bathing? or driving?..

Im a joiner and use MDF which is a danger on two fronts the first is the fine dust and secondly the glue holding it together is Formaldahyde...So Im fully aware thanks very much for your concern....

PS Flour, icing sugar and custard powder are also dangerous, I could go on but won't.Im not giving up custard for anyone:D
