I don't drive so may look a bit silly :rotfl:
I don't suppose it is much of an issue for me as like a said I don't drive so don't use pay @ pumps & very rarely use trains, so my full auth Natwest & Lloyds 'whatever it is' are fine for my needs, I suppose it would just be nice to know beforehand, should you ever need to use your card in one of these situations, as I know I would be EXTREMELY embarrassed if I couldn't pay for something!
Well your BLUE natwest one is definitley full auth.. With lloyds next time your in the branch or on the phone to them just ask them, then can see it on their screen and will tell you no problem. You can tell with the lloyds one also, your available balance deducts immediately after you use it if its full auth, where as the offline one, it doesn't it might be the end of the day, or a couple of days later.0 -
It also depends on the card processing equip, some is not up to date enough to look for the mandatory code so anything including electron will go through. It looks like the coverntry card has "0" in the field and not a "2". Have you had it declined in other places that could not get authorisations, or perhaps the pay at pump machine had a sim card in it?
It has never declined anywhere, but the balance deducts instantly after its used and I even asked them what kind of card it was and they said it was Full Auth.
i much prefer an online card you know exactly what you've spent.0 -

Yes, I know the blue one is full auth - I think the Lloyds one may be too. Not 100% though as I haven't used it to purchase anything for a while, & can't remember if purchases come straight off the available balance - my memory is terrible :rotfl:0 -
The BIN has got nothing to do with the card status i.e. some full auth cards start with 4659 and some CG cards start with 4659 as well, the key differentiator is the next 2 numbers ie 4659 XX that seperates the limted cards from the fully functional cards.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

thats not true at all , the next 2 numbers are specific to the banking institution
for example 4 is visa 751 is RBS group and 11 is ulsterbank all the cards from ulsterbank are 11 full auth and offline, you can tell the difference because the online one is a darker blue and says debit card, and the offline one is a lighter colour and says service card.0 -

The next two numbers differ between limted and fully functional cards and are specifc to the group brand - as you kindly pointed out.;)Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? From the Natwest website:
Will my Visa Debit card work exactly as my Maestro or Solo card did?
Yes, your Visa Debit card will work in exactly the same was as your Maestro or Solo card did. Please note however if your Visa Debit card replaces a Solo card (and begins with the numbers 4751 27 or 4751 28) this cannot be used in unattended Point of Sale terminals, such as those on trains or at petrol pumps.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? Best way is to try and use a Pay @ Pump and see if it will accept your card. If it won't then it's a full-auth card and you'll need to pay at the kiosk.
I am not so sure as my Barclays Connect card on my Basic account works at Pay@Pump it authorises £1 and I can fill up with £100, yet this card should be full auth ?.0 -

Thanks for the info!
That would be correct then - as my blue Natwest visa starts 4751 28xx. Anyone know about the Lloyds cards?
Oh & BTW - Natwest site must have been updated, as I never saw that on there before when I looked - not being lazy !!!!! :rotfl:0 -
See top of thread, you need to find out from the bank if your card has a "Positive Authorization Mandatory (X2X) Service Code".
Every bank will number their cards differently, somone at RBS clearly had some foresight, It will not apply to other institutions.0
