Miele Washing Machine

I have a Hoover Washer dryer which has been a nightmare, The company i have my maintenance insurance with has offered me %50 of the value of the machine towards buying another one. Should i fork out the extra and buy a miele 520. i dont want a washer dryer again. just want a basic quality machine. i have gone through 3 in ten years already. i now want one that will last.

IIRC the later hoovers were made by Creda and the quality is questionable. I have just had to say goodbye to a Hoover First Edition 1300 spin speed. I suspect that the main control board has failed.

Why are you going for a washer/dryer as opposed to separates? The only reason I ask is that you have a much better range to choose from if you can consider separates.

I take a more disposable attitiude towards these things, after my dear wife managed to seize one Indesit washing machine completely by washing pillows stuffed with a type of paper that swells to 3 times its size when wet. The inner drum was completely stuck to the outer drum and the machine had to be completely stripped down and rebuilt. The pillows didn't wash that well either.

Although that still worked OK afterwards the seal was split. I acquired a Hotpoint and virtually gave the old one away. About 5 years later I got this Used and returned Hoover from Comet Auctions for £46 - yes £46! and offloaded the Hotpoint via the paper. The guy who bought it complained that it broke down 8 days later. He stopped the angry phone calls, so I assumed he found the fuse was gone or similar. now 3 years later the Hoover has gone.

..so 3 in 10 years maybe aint bad.....

I now look on the Clearance Comet site for all my white goods. Washing machines can be had for very low prices and these come with full warranty etc. A couple of years ago I bought a brand new Servis washer/drier for a flat I rent out for around £130.

    I don't suppose 3 in 10 years is bad for a Hoover.
If you buy a Bosch or a Miele though you might find that one every 10 years is more the norm!
How about pushing them for the whole cost of the original machine and then adding the extra for what you want? Don't accept the first offer they make to you as you have to add the hassle factor! Good luck!

I've had an AEG for nearly ten years now and it's still going strong. Just seems to have broken a notch on the cycle-select dial. When this one finally goes I definitely be getting another AEG again. It's on about once a day. I even got it cheap because of a unnoticeable dent on the front!

Had the same problem with washer / dryers in that we went through 4 in 10 years. And the engineer was always there.

The Hotpoint was the best - the engineer put a little sticky inside the lid to record what he had done. Before the first year was up - we were running out of lid space! Fortunately the next problem was a small fire - so that burnt all the stickys off .. so we could start again!!

Fortunately we seem to have cracked it with a Zanussi Jetstream 1600 spin washer / dryer. Comet / Curry's were having a bit of a 'loss leader' at the time so we got it £200 under average retail price - and it's been utterly reliable for 2 years now. Like you - space is at a bit of a premium so it has to be combined.

I just bought a Miele 500 for £300 from the Comet auction site, and it comes with a 2 year warranty too!

Miele machines are highly reliable according to 'Which', and many reviews I have read prior to the purchase.
