Any word on whether their Direct ISA will be increasing it's rate from 4.5% ?

That's the "refer a friend" voucher updated to £50 now. Printed mine off and applied for the account as a parachute in case FD decide to go ahead with their monthly charges. £100 for me as I applied through quidco too!

This looks very attractive indeed to 'tarts' like us (and it is - if I do requalify - it just makes my decision to ditch them all the more justified) but has A&L even stopped to consider if it is attracting exactly the 'wrong' sorts of customers and failing to reward exactly the 'right' kind at the same time?

Exactly, when my 10% deal and my 0% OD ends I will drop them like a stone to make me eligible for their new deals. Barclaycard are another example.

CopperPlate - same here - am also with FD and plan to open the A&L account early September, just in case FD £10 a month goes ahead. Can I ask why you've applied for yours now, will you get the 6% current acc / 12% savings if you do it now? I thought we had to wait til September... and what voucher did you print? I plan to apply via Quidco for the £50 then recommend my OH so we both get more money.

Would my plan of action be as follows?

1 - Wait until early September
2 - Apply for my account via Quidco (£50)
3 - When my acc opened, my husband applies for his acc via Qidco (£50)
4 - On application form state that I recommended him
5 - Both receive £50 each due to referral

    Total Gained: £200 (£100 via Quidco, £100 via A&L)

    Thanks all

Does anyone know if existing customers will get the 6% on the current account - obviously not the 12% on the regular saver as that is fixed on application, but surely the current account interest is variable?

not sure if i'll get the 6% - not that bothered really but it will be fine with 5%. The voucher for the £50 is on the 'refer a friend' link from the current account info pages of A&L. Also went through quidco so will hopefully get the £50 there too!

A&L are going to close my account in September as retaliation for successfully claiming past charges back. :T

I was wondering if it is worth trying to reapply and get the incentives again once the account is closed? :D

Are they going to keep a sort of black list or something? If they don't I may be re-accepted as my credit file is clean.

    Thanks for any inputs

Have to say that I am really surprised by how quickly A&L have processed everything. Applied at the weekend and received the PIN's at the start of the week, the welcome pack yesterday and the cheque books today. Cards will likely arrive shortly and will at this rate will have online access by early next week. In contrast, I applied to FD almost a fortnight ago, signed and sent the form back in the middle of last week and have heard nothing else from them. From the feedback on this site, A&L appear to be a right bunch of incompetents, but the experience so far has impressed me I have to say. Again in contrast smile have told me that it will take a week to ten days to send me a replacement debit card.
