    thanks yorkshireboy.

is there anyway - online, that i can check what they have my tax status set to? or should i just drop them a line and check its all set up for tax free? i only ask because with my Egg accounts i can actually see i am set to "tax free status"

what i found strange about setting up the A&L account, although it was a superb, fast and efficient service was that i did NOT have to send a single piece of ID or sign anything. i signed up online and within about 10 days all the various info/cards/cheque book was with me and all operating smoothly.

this compares to me opening a barclays account many years ago and a cahoot savings account last month where various ID's were required and signatures.

not complaining, just thought i would share my observations :D

All my interest payments show up as "Net Interest". Obviously, yours shouldn't.

anyone know if you have to use/spend on the current account on a regular basis, or can you just set it up and save into it?

i'm thinking about using it as a feeder account for the A&L reg saver, and possibly a halifax reg saver, would it work fine for this purpose?

There's no need to make it your 'main account', or use it regularly. Indeed, what you propose would be a very sensible approach, now that the Regular Saver can only be linked to the 1.5% paying Premier Account.
  • Ooooh!! My dad referred me to the A&L and I transferred £600 into my new account on 19th September and I have received "Bank Credit incentive" of £50 on 25th September!!! :-) :-) :-) I thought it was meant to take 28 days from when you transfer at least £500 into it. I assume that is what the money is from?! LOL!
  • Hi all - rather than savings with ICICI, would I be better off opening the A&L 6.1% current account snd 'saving' into this instead as the rate is higher than ICICI?

Not unless you are planning to save less than £2500. The interest rate on balances above that threshold is only 0.1%.
  • Hi, I have set up my account but misread the savings option and on the online application form specified £10 p/m to save into the Premier Regular Saver. I have been told that I am unable to change that to £250 and also if I changed my bank account, the PRS will be cancelled. Anyone had any experience or been able to get them to change any of these details??
