  • Called just now and you cannot get both the Premier Direct Current Account at 6.1% and the Premier Regular Saver at 12%. It's a one or the other situation.

Do people actually bother reading the rest of the thread?!!

Sweet. I already have the old account with the 10% regular saver. Now to convince the wife to open an account with A&L to take advantage of that 12% (still cannot believe that!!!) regular saver
Dont forget to refer each other as well :)
  • I have just looked at A&L website, it says 6.1% but it doesn't say that it is for new accounts only, does this mean existing account holders have their rate increased?

    hi

Not sure if im posting or replying !!

Anayway I have requested from Lloyds TSB 5 years statements, they are in the process of sending me this for £10. The problem is, I know for a fact that the charges have been because I have overspent every month for the last 5 years, by using my Card over the internet and at shops etc, and going over by £300 some months. So can i still claim the charges back? they must amount to over £3000. But I was at fault surely?

Anyone else in the same boat?

    Wrong thread, mate. ;)
"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"
  • I know that it is a good deal - but how irritating and annoying is it that A&L does this soooo often. Launches eye-catching fixed rate deals and within months has brought out another super-duper offer that trumps the previous one, meanwhile, the older version is slowly eroded and downgraded.

They really seem to enjoy drawing in the punters and then taking the legs out from under them six months later. Just glad I got my £50 from them...the account closure letter is being written as we speak.

Regardless of how efficient they were in opening the account, etc, their site is pants (just my opinion mind) as you can't open any accounts through it or contact the bank through secure messages, nor have text banking. There moan over

I think I'd get the basic account + the 12% linked saver.

1 - How easy are they to deal with on the phone? 0870 or 0845 number? Untill what time can you call them up?

2 - How easy/good is their online banking?

I switched to the premier plus account a few months ago. They have an 0845 number which gives automated information (balances, recent transactions etc) which has an option to speak to a real person (in england) if necessary. However they got annoyed with me when I went through to a person to set up a standing order, as they told me I should do everything via the website and not phone through to their people as I had a Premier Plus current account. (in other words higher interest = we don't want to waste the time of our staff speaking to you)

The website was OK, at first it seemed to be down for maintenance quite frequently, as time went on that improved. If you have problems with using the internet banking, they provide you with an internet banking helpdesk number (which I think is available 24/7) where someone is available to sort through if you can't get their internet banking working to do what you want.

I found a few times that people on the phone were telling me they had done what I asked (eg set up a standing order, set up a payee, made a payment) but then it didn't actually happpen, which was rather worrying and very annoying.

as it's not a high street bank, transfers took 4 days rather than 3 days to go to other banks, and it took longer to pay in and clear cheques.

I moved away from them in the end, I think around the time they were bringing out lots of good deals for "new" customers. That sort of attitude in a company winds me up, as it's just asking for people to leave and come back to get a better deal, which I did, I'm now back with a 10% regular saver and 5% current account, which I'm using as a second current account just for the the duration of the regular saver. I came back via quidco as well, for the £50!

Overall they were OK, I'd consider switching my current account banking back to them, but I only want to be with them for a year, so it's not really worth it.

Compared to what you get with some current accounts (eg HSBC's .1% interest) it's a really good deal really, just for the bonuses.

Interestingly enough, if you go for the premier one (1.5% interest, 12% regular saver option), you can now get the free european annual travel insurance, which is not bad for what it is. The insurance isn't available on the premier direct one though.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

  • I signed up with excitement last night but have not heard anything back yet. They said on the website that they let you know by email shortly. Don't know if that is only within the week.

Has anyone else signed up since 5pm yesterday and have you heard back yet? I really want to get this done quickly as I get paid on the 15th of each month, and most of my direct debits are after the 20th of each month, or the 1st of the month which have already been paid this month.
  • Yep - I just signed up & I'm still awaiting the email....
