I have two girls and I believe I fell pregnant the week before I would have bled in both cases. My consultant said everyone was different and everyone would fall at different times of the cycle. I do believe in what will be will be and think that we each get what is meant for us. Don't get disheartened if it doesn't happen as quickly as you would like as we tried for 14 months for the first and then fell straight away with the second.

Good luck to everyone!!!!! Remember you're life will never be the same again!!

Just a word of caution to those buying girl or boy things on the basis of sexing from scans. This is not 100% reliable. I delivered a baby boy, which was scanned as a girl - the parents had even brought in all these frilly dresses to dress the little one in! When I told them that they had a boy, they kept saying to me, are you sure??!! Aaargh!! I have never wanted to 'know' - its a bit like knowing whats in your xmas stocking before you open it!

I was told about the three months by the nurse I saw at my surgery. Apparently, it gives your body time to get rid of the artificial hormones and by having three 'normal' periods it gives a better idea for dates and things. Or something

That's a myth that's grown up from the time that the pill had much higher doses of hormones and they were afraid it would cause birth defects. There's no evidence for that with modern contraceptives, and no reason to wait. In fact, your fertility goes up sharply after a few days off the pill (hence the reason so many people get pregnant while on the pill, after missing a dose), so you could actually be missing your best chance to get pregnant. Just go for it!

As for budgeting, try to avoid buying anything until at least 3 months after the baby's born - everyone will be dying to give you loads of stuff, and close relations often want to buy the big stuff such as cots etc. After that, sales, charity and pound shops, and supermarkets are the places to go.

Most women ovulate around 14 days before their period, or to put it correctly their period starts 14 days after ovulation.

Callista (ferning test) works well, as does checking cervical mucus.Or taking your temp first thing in the morning and charting.
