Clothes - most will end up with baby sick, leaky nappies and other delightful stains on! Best to buy cheap babygros etc., from Ethel Austin, supermarkets, Primark etc., for everyday use and a couple of nice outfits "for best".

You could also have a look on ebay. When I was expecting my little girl last year I brought a few new babygro's. Had been told at scan was having girl but didn't want to spend a lot on dresses and clothes to find having a boy (know a few this has happend to). I went on ebay and brought a bundle of newborn/0-3mnths clothes for a couple of quid. They were really nice clothes and now she has finished with them I bundled them with some of her new clothes and sold them on ebay. Also be aware that although they are all sized the same (nb,0-3mnths) some are larger than others for example in-laws brought her 0-3 babygro's from ethel austin and she's only just grown out of them she's now 7mnths.
If you are thinking of reusable nappies you could keep an eye out in sales. I got mine from boots and got extra 1000 points for something I was going to buy anyway. Good luck.

    Hi There,

DH and I are into the 2nd month of trying, having got married in April, same as becles. Last year there was this great thread on the Old Style board, all about having a baby cheaply:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=71893&highlight=having+a+baby+style

Ovulation predictor kits are cheaper online - I've got some from access diagnostics £5 for 10 sticks (should do you 2 months):

    http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/acatalog/Special_offer_Home_ovulation_tests.html

Personally I've found them rubbish cos I never know when to start testing with them, and haven't got a single positive yet! I've just started doing my temperature daily (first thing in the morning) cos this can tell you if you've def ovulated. I'm not long off the pill myself so would like to know if my body's getting back to normal.

We too are trying to save - so far I've got just over £1k but I'm finding it hard to increase this amount at the mo. There are other places can cut back tho - we've been overpaying on our mortgage so I can stop doing that if/when the patter of tiny feet arrive.

Babydust to you both (ie good luck in your efforts to conceive!!) :p

tells you when you are fertile.

we are trying for a baby after having having a mcarriage in may...thought would be 'quick' to get preg as only took once last time (was "accident" and seriously just the once without protection) but its not tutning out to be so easy now, typical really.
i am due on today and no sign as yet so fingers crossed, although i have already done a test (not very £saving) which was neg..hoping maybe false neg but maybe clutching at straws.

baby on a budget - breastfeed, hand me downs, charity shops, factory outlets, eg we have a mamas and papas one in hudds, much cheaper than the shop, if ppl ask what you want; tell them what you need! primark for baby clothes, and dont buy lots of newborn clothes as ppl will buy you those as presents and baby will soon outgrow them

when weaning, dont buy jars, do homemade food and blend.(seems ages away though doesnt it!)

good luck and happy 'trying' !!!!

I guess what I really want to know is how much money does a new baby cost?

Tesco have 3 for the price of 2 at the moment in the frozen section ...
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I came off the pill & fell preggers on my first cycle, which was 7 weeks after stopping the pill (I was paronid & used ovulation predictors so I know this is how long it took me to ovulate. V. cheap on ebay if anyone needs them). The 3 month thing is a myth which many medical professionals believe. The only reason for it is to allow your cycle to re-estabish itself so that you can get to know when you are most fertile etc. There is nothing actually stopping you or medically wrong with trying sooner & in fact many women have a kind of mini-boost to their fertiltiy when they first come off the pill then experience a bit of a lull in their cycles for a few months once they are re-estabilshed! Get practising now (lots:D) and you might be suprised!

As for how much it costs, well that is really upto you. But most of what is in mothercare is unecessary and what is necessary can be bought loads & loads cheaper elsewhere, or for pennies if you don't mind secondhand. Use your common sense & you'll be fine:T The most expensive cost is either childcare or loss of an income, much harder to deal with for most people than all the stuff!

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
