You can't run a router on a filtered extension - all the ADSL signal has been removed by the filter. If it were just a phone on it then yes it should always be filtered at the master socket end.I'm not really a techie, but maybe try putting your extension-line filter into the socket before the extension line, rather than at the router end.0 -
In fact the chances are that the fault is on the line but you have to eliminate your own wiring and filtering. If the BT Openreach engineer (and they fix the line even though you are with TalkTalk) find the fault is caused by your wiring there will be a £100+ charge and TT will pass that on to you. I'm not really a techie, but maybe try putting your extension-line filter into the socket before the extension line, rather than at the router end.
I don't know whether that will make a difference, but all the diagrams I have seen suggest you set it up with the filter in the "wall socket" rather than immediately before the router.
It's a simple experiment to try and it may make some difference.

Unfortunately not the easiest if you've got a desktop machine, but the only way you'll be sure is to take the router and PC down to the master socket and plug it in there.
If you still experience drop-outs it would point towards your line.
If the issue points towards your line, it could be that your the IP profile (line speed) is just too high to keep the line stable.Dave. :wave:0 -

Just r.e. your original question 1Mb/s = 1024kb/s (your son probably meant 1Mb - which is how broadband speeds are advertised - rather than 1Gb).
So your speed in Mb is (10322/1024) 10Mb/s which is excellent.
Now you just need some good luck with your phone line

hi all just a little more info,, its a modem i have and not a router sorry ,, if theres a difference??? i have an extension from the master socket to my sons bed room were the modems connected by an adsl filter to the modem which is marked phone and modem and i have the modem connected to this,,, the extension is long and i will sort this ,,, but is the info i have just added alter any of the advice ive been give???0

Modem or router it makes no difference. The point made earlier was that if you put the ADSL filter where the extension is plugged into the phone socket, it will filter out the ADSL signal. The way that you have it is correct but you really should wire a proper telephone extension to the bedroom and ditch the poxy extension lead.
