hi,
My contract with three ends on Thursday so I rang them today to check this was still going ahead and the guy offered me a deal of £18 a month, Tocco Lite Ultra phone with 500 minutes/texts any conbination .... However, I'm worried after reading the reviews online as the phone does not have great review plus I spoke to a friend and she has the Tocco Lite and she was not positive either.
I actually looked awhile ago at the HTC Hero which does have very good reviews plus its updatable (apparently Tocco doesnt have many applications available) so in it wont age as much as the one I have had this past 18 month has (SkypePhone). I wanted to say this was the phone I would like but Im so not pushy!
What are my rights to send it back if Im not happy? Will I still be able to end the contract? What are my chances of getting a HTC Hero phone with a similar plan?
Thanks for any advice
Jen

You get either 7 or 14 days to send it back. What you are offered as an upgrade relies directly on how much you have been paying for your previous contract.0

If it's the Tocco Lite then it's not a bad phone however it's very to cheap to pick up on PAYG so not ideal on a contract. If it's the Ultra then it's a good phone but not a patch on the Hero for the reasons you mentioned. I'd change it for a Hero.0 -
If you are planning on returning the Tocco for a Hero, my advice would be don't be tempted to take it out of the delivery bag or box. Just return it as delivered, all sealed and unopened. There is no way they could refuse the return.
There have been too many stories where customers have unwittingly waived their right to return because they had turned on the phone. Read the small print regarding their 14 day return policy. Its very limited in what you can do without losing your right to return. Essentially you can just look at the phone without turning it on...if you put a sim in, set the phone clock, theme, etc... and you're stuck with it for 18 months.
I'm sure you can strike a deal with 3 regarding the Hero. Most retention offers tend to be pretty rubbish these days, but theres always a chance of them giving you a Hero for a nominal fee or free if your monthly spend is profitable for them. Just be persistent and request your PAC code if they don't play ball.
It boils down to how much you want to spend per month. There are quite a few good deals on Android phones at the moment, mostly with T-mobile. Go and have a look around, loyalty doesn't count for much these days in the mobile world!
Good luck.0 -
If you know you're not going to be happy with it, as one of the last posters said, arrange to return without even opening it, just send it straight back, once they receive it you'll be able to arrange another. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

Blimey, I would swap for the Hero as well if it were me. I had a tocco ultra for 4 days before I sent it back as I hated it so much. Put me right off touch screen phones until i got an iPhone.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit
) - £588

Thanks for replying everyone!
I was paying £22 + VAT so meant to be around £25 a month but I was always going over but the average was more like £30 a month. If it's the Tocco Lite then it's not a bad phone however it's very to cheap to pick up on PAYG so not ideal on a contract. mmm thats what the reviews said ... ok but I really dont want it to age too badly, my Skypephone is a antique now by many standards.parallax_20 wrote: »If you are planning on returning the Tocco for a Hero, my advice would be don't be tempted to take it out of the delivery bag or box. Thanks for the advice, this is what Im going to do.... I really thought I had a few days at least to actually review it - the phone company really do have us over a barrel
Off to telephone Three now and inform them of the news...

edited to add - just rung them and they say I have to refuse the delivery and it will go back to them. He says he will ring me tommorrow to arrange a new handset, he mentioned Samsung 8510 but wouldn't tell me any other handsets which I am eligable for.0 -
Dont go for the three contract, network is really bad, it's not worth for the money. They send second hand refurbished phones most of the time.
Go for three pay as you go until you find a right contract then move to the new network with your number.0 -

Request your PAC code! This starts the process of terminating your contract with Three yet is reversible if you simply don't use the code, and sends a clear signal to Three that you need retentions. Go into any phone store and play with a few phones - maybe go in a few stores a few times without your purse so you can't get schmoozed - I have made the mistake of not doing this and getting a horrible phone unseen and having to sit out a contract. With Orange you can login and see on their website what phones are on your retentions package and you can then haggle down the price - are Three not the same?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Don't get your hopes up on getting a Hero from 3. I have requested my PAC code from them, and retentions have called me twice now with the same crap offer of a Hero for £25 per month, 24 month contract - ie the bog standard deal in store and on their website. I keep telling them the Hero is the only phone I would consider but they won't budge on that price.
Anyway, I'm not stupid and have just signed up with Vodafone for a similar deal but for the new HTC Legend (which is basically Hero mk 2 and much better apparently).
Best of luck - someone on another forum did get one for £18 ish on an 18-month contract but I was sick of waiting, and maybe he was a super high value customer as no one else seems to have got a Hero for anything like that!0 -
Well I was just on the phone to them for 40 minutes and the guy seemed to believe that the more he talked the more convinced I would be... The first person I spoke to tried to convince me that I should just try it for awhile as basing my decision on the reviews was a bad idea. I pointed out that if I put my SIM in the phone I would be deemed to have accepted it! She didnt seemed to know about this and claimed I was incorrect in the end I had to force it and she then told me I had to go through to exchanges.
The next guy could have talked the hind legs off a donkey!! In the end he convinced me to take a Nokia X6 BUT said he couldnt offer me it at any less than £23 a month (including VAT) on 500 cross minutes. It is better than whats advertised on the website but I have still to look up the reviews yet ... He claimed it was a good competitor for the HTC Hero as I was pushing for that but said that was only available if I would pay £150 towards the handset!
The website says the HTC is available at £25 - really confused. I just want a phone that isnt going to age to fast over the next 18 month and will do at least a fancy things (unlike my current skype).
