Are First Time Buyers selfish generally?
Comments
-
The point is, we are all first time buyers once.
Selfishness is not exclusive to FTB's.
Risk taking, hassle of moving and getting a good deal are also not exclusive to FTB's.
Buying a house is generally stressful, you do what you need to buy a home.0 -
If you are a FTB are you one that:
1. ignores the fact that there might be a chain of people who are all emotionally involved and have their own timescales and wishes - but in fact you think you are the most important
2. leaves your survey until the last minute showing yourself up as really wet behind the ears
3. chooses a really cheap conveyancer for the biggest finanicial deal you have ever embarked on
4. chooses a really cheap conveyancer, you know the one that fails to tell you about the covenants in the deeds you are buying so that you actually do park your white/business van on the estate annoying the hell out of your neighbours, who have respected the covenant - thus again making you look like someone who used a cheap lawyer and now a prat
5. doesn't even think to have a survey and late on gets reminded how daft you are if you do not (for a property over say 3 years as even NHBC properties can get problems very early on)
6. has a survey done and fails to realise that every house has something wrong, call it a project you can attend to over time, and yet you think the seller needs to repair their own house before they move out or even to give you an automatic price reduction/allowance
7. gets nervous at the last minute and pulls out
8. forgets to instigate your mortgage early enough and so holds the chain up
9. who is in rented and god forbid you will pay any rent at the same time as your mortgage payments - and so potentially risk losing your cherished bricks and mortar you desire (as some sellers do throw their toys out of the pram and hate delay making FTBs and will just resell)
10. did I say...forgets you are part of a chain where your timescale is just one of many, all to be respected and accomodated
If you are, please stay in rented until you take on board the above.
... but like the murphy's TimmyT wasn't bitter.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Oh and btw, points 3 & 4 are what this forum is about. Getting the cheapest quote. I am 100% certain that if a FTB knew that the solicitors they chose would slow the process of them getting into their lovely new property, they wouldn't have gone with them. Everyone wants to save money, but get equally good service, that's why we come on here!
This might sound like word play but it isn't meant to be: I've never believed in getting the cheapest quote/price for anything. I believe very strongly in getting the best value quote though. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

They are the most important.
Without FTB the housing market slows to a crawl. You can't move up the ladder if no one is coming in beneath you.0 -
Great responses. It was meant to provoke that is all.
I am not a FTB and yes many are cracking people, but if we can change those that fall into my numbered points, to be a little more thoughtful, even better, as time and time again I hear about problem chanins with FTB who do the numbered points. My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
If you are a conveyancer are you:
1. a third rate solicitor who wanted a job in corporate litigation, but wasn't good enough so ended up on the scrap heap.
hmmmm0 -
timmyt - I don't understand why you are posting all this? Do you expect FTB's to go "ME ME ME" to your questions? So you are just stating that they annoy you so basically F off until they think the way you do.
As a FTB your post annoys me. I am buying off someone (who claims they aren't in a chain) and their solicitor is holding up everything (by doing !!!!!! all) and this means we will end up paying another months rent at the same time as our mortgage payment. So do you think this is fair?

Everyone wants to save money on here unless you're a seller then you are expected to give give give - the post above yours is a perfect example - reduce your house to 1999 prices for mbg9apf everyone.0 -

Oh my goodness, someone or something must have got to you! I'm
a ftb and I'd hate to think that people have that opinion of all of us. Concisering what my sellers have put me through I'd say I was the one who was less 'stupid' in my situation and I was the more organised and prepared party. I have been very accomodating concisering them mucking me about saying they have signed for their new property an want to exchange asap and complete in a fortnight when they haven't even got their formal mortgage offer or had their survey done and then tell the estate agents it was me pushing for completion in 2 weeks!!!! And also being told the house they are moving in to is empty so everything should be quick and we need to sign asap but actually it's not empty it's got student tenants in and our seller wants work done by his seller before he completes! Why lie??!!
See... It's not just first time buyers who are annoying to some!
Please don't tar us all with the same brush!0 -

1. ignores the fact that there might be a chain of people who are all emotionally involved and have their own timescales and wishes - but in fact you think you are the most important
the first house i tried to buy at asking price had the offer turned down as vendors wanted more we offered 3 grand over asking price and still not good enough! money grabbing vendors (!!!!!!!!) they had a vacant property to move to and had move due to job move!! the house is still empty and on the market 3.5 years later (at a lot less than we offered)i hate to think how much there discision has cost them!!!
When i found a house the vendors had not even been looking untill they had a buyer - i was a choice catch as i did not have a property to sell -they had to find a house and had no idea of the local area they were looking at.
2. leaves your survey until the last minute showing yourself up as really wet behind the ears
when i had an offer accepted i had a surveyer in in 48 hours - it would have been quicker - but it was not convienient for the vendors.
3. chooses a really cheap conveyancer for the biggest finanicial deal you have ever embarked on.
i chose a good conveyencer on recomendations from others - i cant fault her - it was the vendors conveyencing that that caused delays.
4. chooses a really cheap conveyancer, you know the one that fails to tell you about the covenants in the deeds you are buying so that you actually do park your white/business van on the estate annoying the hell out of your neighbours, who have respected the covenant - thus again making you look like someone who used a cheap lawyer and now a prat.
the other partys conveyencing failed to notice that their related purchase was from a charity and needed the charity commisions consent to proceed ( causing a further 6 week delay) their soliciters advertise cheaper then mine!
5. doesn't even think to have a survey and late on gets reminded how daft you are if you do not (for a property over say 3 years as even NHBC properties can get problems very early on).
NA
6. has a survey done and fails to realise that every house has something wrong, call it a project you can attend to over time, and yet you think the seller needs to repair their own house before they move out or even to give you an automatic price reduction/allowance.
understood the survey - ideal house - yes the electrics needed a bit of attention!! sorted within 48 hours of moving in.
7. gets nervous at the last minute and pulls out.
NA
8. forgets to instigate your mortgage early enough and so holds the chain up.
had mortgage offer in principle before making first offer.
9. who is in rented and god forbid you will pay any rent at the same time as your mortgage payments - and so potentially risk losing your cherished bricks and mortar you desire (as some sellers do throw their toys out of the pram and hate delay making FTBs and will just resell).
Due to continual delays (3 1/2 months) had already had to give notice on rental and move in with parents - not ideal!! but put up with it for the vendors stalling.
10. did I say...forgets you are part of a chain where your timescale is just one of many, all to be respected and accomodated.

it can be a hard slog being a FTB!!!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
