Does your dog chew up your mail?

The thing with the posties though (and I can completely understand if the dog really is getting their fingers!) is that mine is using it as an excuse not to deliver properly. I have had a cage on the door for a couple of years, there is absolutely no danger to the postie at all, but I still got a warning letter, blaming non-delivery on the dog.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
My parents dog does this but only if he's in the house by himself when it arrives, not when they are around. He takes the post away from the door to rip up though and their postman is used to him now and just tells him to shut up when he barks!0

I keep my dogs away from the front door. Don't trust them not to nip fingers coming through the letter box, and I would like to keep receiving my mail in good condition and on time!Skip dipper and proud....0

My beagle used to chew up the mail when she was a puppy ,
we have a cupboard out side so simply put a letterbox in there .
she still goes mad when the postie comes , but if i have to open the door for some mail , she goes all soft and whiny :rotfl:The original janiebaby0 -

But if you were a non-dog owner trying to avoid being bitten by dogs all day and you went to a house where there was a barking growling dog behind the door would you risk putting your fingers through the letterbox? I know I wouldn't and I have a dog. He may not know the letter box cage is there or whether its fallen down.0 -
I have a Cairn Terrier who went wild when things came through the letter box. He was too wee to reach it, but when stuff landed on the mat he 'killed' whatever it was.
I ended up with a letterbox on my wall, which all my post goes into, and I taped up the letterbox.
The time our post is delivered is very inconsistent (but I am not complaining so please dont take that as a moan!!) and made it difficult to train him not to do it, I was often out when it arrived, so the letterbox outside seemed the best solution.0 -
Your little dog sees the letters as a threat that has to be destroyed, he's protecting his property daft little thing.
My dog did it - we bought a basket ans she ripped it off the door.
She ended up getting loads of paper cuts in her lips which got a infected due to her food getting trapped in the cuts.
so it cost over £100 in vets bills as she had to have long term anti biotics and trips back to the vet.
To stop it?
We spent £1200 on a porch!;)
Still, it makes the house a lot warmer..........
It might take a while but you could try to train him to ignore it, by getting a family member to post things and you control him?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

My westie did it once and once only....and typically, it was an important letter telling me where my five month work placement would be for uni! Half the letter was readable - but not the placement address or telephone number! 'Twas very embarrassing having to phone up uni and explain why I needed the details again...!
