  • What does "being referred" for a job mean, is that the same as JCP printing it off?

    Thanks

My JSA agreement (drawn up in Feb) states "look for jobs within 60 minutes travelling time from home address using public transport". I have a wage restriction but only for the first 13 weeks (that still doesn't stop them giving me jobs to apply for with the minimum wage, lol).[/QUOTE]

I wonder why that it as mine is for the full 26 weeks. Maybe you are in different part of the country to me.

I was about to ask the same thing. It sounds like it's different but I don't know how.

They told me it's for 13 weeks to begin with but this could be extended to 6 months but I would have to prove that there were jobs available on my last salary.

I think they make it up as they go along

Isnt it that the job centre actually tell the company that you will be applying and refer your details to them then keep in touch with them so they know if you havent applied?......rather than just giving you the slip and not knowing whether you have done anything about it?

It sounds likely. I've never experienced that level of service myself so never knew about it. Thanks :)

They'll tell to you get a taxi, use a bike or get a lift from someone.

if you got a really nasty jobcentre worker you might get told something like that. its extremely unlikely though. i dont think you realise how far away a company is likely to be if you cant get there by bus or even by walking. i used to do a 45 minute walk to work for 3 years.
a taxi is totally unreasonable as you would spend most of your wages on getting to work. use a bike? not everyone is super fit and can cycle 15 miles plus and then do a days work before cycling another 15 miles plus home. get a lift? what do you do when that person is off sick or on holiday? what if no-one wants to give you a lift? i have worked in places full of miserable so'n'so's who dont offer a lift to those who walk or bus it.

Ah, that sounds nearer the mark. I haven't been "referred" yet but don't suppose they can do that until they remove my restriction. If a job does come up close to my previous salary, I don't need any prompting from JCP to apply for it :rotfl:

I could be totally wrong though!

p.s Ive never had any kind of service from the job centre - apart, of course, from the fortnightly 30 second farce otherwise known as signing on day!! ;)

:rotfl:Me neither, then again my JCP is open some nights until 7pm and on Saturdays so I guess they are rather busy.
