  • British Gas have fitted a Magnabooster filter in our central heating system for free (usual cost £300!) 'cos we are both over 60. Also our local (award winning!) fish and chip shop does a pensioners special on Wednesdays ( £3 as against £4.50 - so worth having)

Do you mean that if you join the NT for Scotland, you can use your membership for the NT at no extra charge?

    Thanks.

I live in England and have just joined the NT for Scotland, I believe it entitles you to free or discounted entry to any NT property throughout the world. I have friends in NZ and apparently my membership allows me to visit sites there - should I be able to go there one day :)
  • The Focus DIY 10% discount for over 60s applies every day but three or four times a year they also send out additional cards, valid for a month or so, which gives 15% off - well worth waiting for!

I discovered you can get 10% discount on a senior citizen railcard by entering "senior10" in the promotional code window on the online application form.

For someone over 60 with a disability the Disabled Person's Railcard is cheaper (£18 for one year instead of £26 for a Senior Railcard) and it also allows someone travelling with the card holder to get a discount.

Note that using a hearing aid is one of the disabilities that can make one eligible.

Both winter fuel payments AND the buss pass have to wait till you reach pensionable age which is now on a sliding scale depending on when you were born. I am 60 this September but will have to wait till March 2011 till I can collect my pension and the above. Others will have to wait a lot longer!

This doesn't apply in Scotland - 60 is when bus pass is issued and if you were 60 on a specific date (not sure which day this was) in September you'll get the winter fuel payment this year.

BUT......the pension sliding scale thingy does apply as it's a UK wide scheme.

Unfortunately at Plymouth Argyle you have to be 65. Maybe the reason they don't get many supporters?:(

every football club that I know of in the UK says you must be over 65
please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

At my club, FC United of Manchester, it's 60, but then it is a supporters' club

Isn't this tied to the female retiring age (to avoid sexual discrimination)? This will age limit will rise by almost 6 years over the next 10. So the numbers of people recieving this perk should not increase as quickly as it has been doing.
    Aren't prescription charges affected similarlly?

  • Whittards (posh tea and coffee) give a 10% discount to over 60's on full price tea and coffee, though I'm not sure about other items eg teapots etc. Just ask at the till. I've never seen it publicised in store but I was asked once when I went to pay so now mention it myself.
  • The Wyvdale is now the Garden Centre Group and mentioned on the main pages of MSE and you can register easily online for a 5% discount. It is an easy to use site with lots of info and shows where your nearest centre is. They have examples of Xmas menus and Santa's Grottos, and you can have a close look at all the plants just by clicking on the image. They are split into groups so you can get an idea of what is suitable for your garden. Have a look.:T http://www.thegardencentregroup.co.uk
