James Wellbeloved is the one I feed my cats on and they absolutely love it - they would not touch Iams at all - either dry or the wet food0

Thanks it seems to be between wellbeloved and Burns. I have a farm shop near me so I will pop up there to see what they have. Wellbeloved are sending out a free sample but I couldnt find anwhere to get a free sample for Burns .My cats have been fed so far on iams and I thought I was doing well by not feeding them whiskas etc, but I have been living in ignorance ! One of my cats have dandruff so it could well be the case.I have tended to rely on the poo test so far in what to feed them, and with whiskas etc you always get the runs ! Iams was recommended by a vet years ago and they dont get diarrohea with it so hence I thought it was good for them- with some fresh food .
However I am now keen to get their diet sorted and will pop out today to see what better alternatives I can find. Unfortunately like a lot of pet owners I have been persued too much by advertising.
Here is the link to the BUAV and HERE is the report which is distressful.0 -
After much research, I changed my dog feed to Burns. It's great - there is less rubbish in it, so less poo, she moults less, and still has tonnes of energy. I get a 7.5kg bag for about £17, which lasts at least three months, if not more. I'd never feed any of the 'big' manufacturers food again.
They'll send you samples if you email them and ask nicely!"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
If you are still interested in an organic food, then this site is the one you want to investigate:

Are you after tinned or dry food ? A good natural tinned food is applaws or almo nature, but it is not cheap. Have a look at: http://www.applaws.co.uk/
Another alternative is Hill's Nature's Best, my cats all adore this, it comes in Chicken or Tuna flavours.0 -
After all that long explanation, would you rather spend your money on cats or feeding children in Africa,do you donate to human charities or animal ones, just getting an idea about your prioritiesCat72 wrote:My cats are my responsability and it is up to me to make sure that they are healthy. It is also my responsability not to pay pet food firms money so they can manufacturer pet food from dubious sources and make a profit. I personally dont like to see any animals or humans suffering and be aware that I am partly responsable because I wanted to save 5p a tin.
If parents want to feed their children what they want thats up to them. I certainly would not feed my children processed, manufactured regurgitated food and tell them to be grateful that they have anything to eat and dont have to beg. Neither would I do this to any person or animal.
As a pet owner I am responsable for the cats health that I have rescued and to give them the best possable life I can.Two of my cats have allergys which I believe a good diet would help, plus many animals, like humans die of cancer every year.I would say it is wasting my money provide inadequate food to the cats and having huge vet bills because of illnesses ,malnurition and dental problems etc.To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -

This is a money saving board not a personal critism one. Who are you to try and judge what peoples priorites are ? I dont try to judge what anyone spends there money on as it is none of my business.
I feel sorry for you that you feel the need to come on a board asking for advice about the best quality organic cat food in order to try to pull others down and make yourself feel superior.
If you took a good look at yourself instead of concentrating on others maybe you would be a better person.0 -

Cats have specific nutritional requirements, just the same as any other species.
Humans have chosen to breed and domesticate cats, and keep them as pets, and therefore as pet owners, we have a responsibility to meet their needs. Would you suggest that someone who owned a cat that was subsequently ill through a nutritional deficiency did not 'waste their money' and take it to the vet?! :rolleyes2 "No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
We just have different priorities, still not answered my question about children in Africa,to love cats you must be a kind person ,just perhaps a little focused, please do not take my comments personaly.I just feel that we should not try to project our human feelings upon animals,I could produce a healthy ,glossy coated long living cat fed on non-organic food ,can you dispute that ,just trying to save you money ,that is what this site is about ,because if you buy organic food for cats you are being ripped off. What do the RSPCA feed their cats on ,non-organic food ,rest my case, please save moneyTo be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Surely health is more important than money. Surely you'd rather have healthy kids and less money than be loaded and have sick kids, same thing goes with pets, or even be healthy yourself and have a healthy partner than have loads of money.
Just because the OP cares about the welfare of their cats doesn't mean they don't care about the welfare of other people in the world. I'd say they'd be more likely to than not if they are concerned about their cats, they are more likely to think about the welfare of others than those cat owners who don't even consider whats in the food they are feeding their own cats.0
