Organic cat food - any recommendations ?

Hi
Im endeavouring to mend my junk lifestyle ways and become more organic and aware. As I have three lovely cats I want to make sure they are healthy too, especailly after reading about what can go into their commercial food.
Can anyone recommend any good organic/ healthy cat food and also any sited where you can get them from for the best service/ price.
I found Pet organic but there is a £9.00 delivery charge and I am not sure what products to go for.

    There is Burns...

Not tried Burns myself but it is rated very highly on a cat forum I'm a member of. There is also James Wellbeloved, my cat loves their 'Senior' duck flavoured biccies, even though she has hardly any teeth!

James Wellbeloved is sold in most normal petshops ie) Pets at Home, Jollyes etc. There is a section on the Burns website to email them for details of the nearest stockist and you can also buy it directly from them, spend over £25 and it's free delivery if not it's just £3.50

    Hope this helps...

I use Burns, it's not organic but it's not tested on animals and it's not full of cr4p.

They will send you free samples to begin with, there are 2 flavours for cats chicken & fish. They also send you a 2.50 voucher off your first purchase. And we just recieved a further 5 pound voucher.

I bought my 1st pack from a normal shop at full RRP 6.99 2.0 kg chicken (I think) you can check on the website.

Then I ordered from a local "farm supplies merchant" and they ordered by mistake the 7kg bag and boy is it big! But we accepted the order even though we had ordered the 2.0 kg one. The good thing was it had an RRP of 26.99 but because this shop is a wholesale for farmers they only charged about 20 - 21 pounds. We then put the bix into big 9litre tupperware boxes so they would stay fresh, and we have about 2 kg left after a few months.

Next time we will order 7.5 kg again!

Why not make homemade cat food, then you know exactly whats gone into it. I'm sure you can get reciepe books on this and probably find some on the internet.

    This site looks interesting

Hi 72.....for what it's worth, my elderly cat has taken a liking to the sausage type DOG food out of Lidl. Jellied stuff. 29p A WEEK.
Previous diet was costing me 25p A DAY.

My cats are my responsability and it is up to me to make sure that they are healthy. It is also my responsability not to pay pet food firms money so they can manufacturer pet food from dubious sources and make a profit. I personally dont like to see any animals or humans suffering and be aware that I am partly responsable because I wanted to save 5p a tin.
If parents want to feed their children what they want thats up to them. I certainly would not feed my children processed, manufactured regurgitated food and tell them to be grateful that they have anything to eat and dont have to beg. Neither would I do this to any person or animal.
As a pet owner I am responsable for the cats health that I have rescued and to give them the best possable life I can.Two of my cats have allergys which I believe a good diet would help, plus many animals, like humans die of cancer every year.I would say it is wasting my money provide inadequate food to the cats and having huge vet bills because of illnesses ,malnurition and dental problems etc.

We fed our cats on Welbeloved for years and they did really well on it. Then became more difficult to obtain locally and Tesco was doing lots of special pricing on Iams so we switched to that. After being on that for around six months or more our cats developed dandruff. Never seen it before.

We decided to switch and have recently started them on Burns. They don't seem as keen on that as they were on the Wellbeloved, but then they don't really seem to like changes of food. Anyway, we've got 15kg of the stuff so they are going to have to put up with it!

Iams scores the worst ethically. Check out BUAV website, they have a report on vivisection and pet foods. Burns does pretty well. I did a price comparison on all the decent foods and they seem to do well on that too. You can buy direct from them and they deliver free. I looked at the organic foods, but I was not convinced by them. Apart from price, I don't remember why though.
