8 weeks pregnant and starving - what to do?

Hello All,
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and I'm absolutely ravenous ALL the time, it's driving me mad especially as I'm trying not to over eat. Not seen the midwife yet as I've just been referred but does anyone have any ideas on how to curb my hunger other than eating huge quantities of food! Is this normal?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, congratulations!
What you're going through is totally normal, so don't panic. It's also not a sign that you'll wind up like Jabba the Hutt later on either - you're body is getting used to having a little person growing inside. I felt like that, and I've so far put on about 9 kg at 25 + 1. All I can suggest is that you try to make sure what you're eating isn't junk. Wholegrain toast with hoummous, or avocado is healthy and yum, so are homemade smoothies with yoghurt/ milk/ soya.

It's entirely normal and the answer to your question is "Just eat!"
As somebody else said, try to make sure that you eat healthily (fruit, wholemeal bread, etc). But don't feel ashamed about eating more, you currently need those higher levels of energy.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Just eat! I felt like that too, and also eating was the only thing that helped a bit with the nausea. Your body is telling you what you need, just go with it. I've eaten exactly what I've wanted throughout this pregnancy, have tried to eat fruit and veg (which I enjoy anyway) but tbh at the start all I could stomach was carbs and junk food, which aren't what I normally want. I'm now nearly 8 months and not put that much weight on, so must've needed it I guess.
Congrats by the way!
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
As others have said it is entirely normal! The books who say you don't need extra calories until the third trimester are obviously written by people who have not been pregnant!
As long as you eat healthy snacks (but don't beat yourself up for the odd indulgence) then you will be fine.
With my first I only craved healthy foods, and did lot's of exercise and only gained a stone. This time round I haven't been so lucky!0 -
Are you taking some vitamin pills? It may be that 'something' is slightly lacking in your current diet and you are trying to get enough of it.
Similarly I was very dehydrated in my early stages so that may be another thing.
Other than that - yes, quite normal to be hungry a lot. Porridge was the only thing that stopped me feeling sick in my first trimester.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
you have my full sympathy.
Im 10 weeks atm, everything seems to be calming down, but when I was 5-8 weeks was STARVING...solution, loads of pasta, rice, spuds, fruit, veg, salad, nuts, dried fruit, toast and cereal (ie fill you up, but not going to make you a lardy!)
Now im 10 weeks, food makes me blurgh!

Hi starjumper. I would also say just go with the flow and eat. I am only 6 weeks at the mo but have the opposite problem to you - I have no appetite what so ever but have to eat to get rid of nausea!! This early pregnancy malarky is tough, isn't it!! Take care0

Being hungry is normal as other have said try to eat healthy snacks or what i did was cut out eating 3 big meals and have maybe 6 smaller ones through out the day. With the morning sickness kicking in i couldn't stomach big meals anyway.
Three i couldnt take the massive tablets either. Why they have to make them so big i just dont know they seemed to sit in my throat no matter how much i drank and that made me hurl :-( x:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0
