  • Thanks, everyone - you are all so lovely and helpful here!

Cathj, my DS is four so I can't exactly get away with taking a beaker for him so will have to buy him a separate drink, but otherwise, I think I will do as you suggest since yes, it certainly does look like more than enough food for us all!

I also can't imagine it would matter if one ordered an extra drink or two anyway - after all, it's quite normal to have more than one drink with your meal. Even the brief says you're to have 'two refill drinks' and I don't see how you're supposed to drink all that if you're on your own!
I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

  • Morning all. Having a relaxing day today as its my OH's birthday so only one mystery shop visit for me. One GFK bank which only took 15 minutes. Will do the report tonight as I want to enjoy this lovely sunny weather which we are having. Have to confess it is rather strange not being out ms'ing today. Hope I don't start to shake........

To be fair, how many over 50's would be buying a computer without someone younger with them? Not many (though perhaps 50 is maybe five your too young, these days). Yes, I'm generalising before the wingers/sh*t-stirrers say "what about someone buying for their grandson"/etc.

    Quite a few I'd suspect.

I used to love doing these jobs (Can't now, too old ;)).
As an IT systems engineer of 15 years standing I would play dumb (as per the scenario)and then see what the spotty youth would try to sell me.

Some of their ideas and IT knowledge is ludicrously funny :D

I would never dream of buying a PC from any of these stores as they are at best patronising and at worst just out to get comission on their sale.(Almost as bad as travel agents).

I understand the limits on mystery shopping assignements. I posted about that here

Makes me smile though as to how far off the "norm" marketing data seems to be.

Bit of a thick question re a REACT visit. Have to go to a posh glam handbag kinda shop and buy a very posh glam handbag. It says you have to return in, but does not say when. If anyone else has done this or are doing it, can they shed some light on this? Can I take it back the same day or a few days later or what? I might have to call REACT next week. I'm confused.

Also, is it just me or are RETAILEYES pinching all the companies from RETAIL MAXIM and TNS etc?

I returned it about an hour later, telling them I'd just had coffee with my sister, and she didn't like the back, so I'd changed my mind. Jaw droppingly expensive those things. Would have been scared to take it home in case the cat sat on it or something!

Retail eyes website hates me. I can't see any jobs except airports and pubs anymore.

Hey, all, me again with another annoying question… (sorry!)

I'm doing a pizza job for Gap tomorrow and am taking DH and DS with me so we can enjoy a cheap, if not completely free, meal out together. And now I'm looking at the choices I'm allowed to order and trying to get my head round how I go about ordering for three people.

The instructions say in several places that you can have up to four people but 'the others' must dine separately. It seems that you can have just one person with you in 'your' party. So presumably in this instance I should ask for separate bills – one for me, and one for DH and DS? But isn't that going to look a bit odd?

As an alternative, looking at the choices of food, it looks like I could get DS a kid's meal and DH and I could easily share a large pizza and salad bowl and one of the sharing desserts. Which would, in effect, only be two orders on one receipt, so we could all pay together, which would make it easier, but is it okay to have things on the receipt (i.e. a kiddie meal) that aren't on the order list? I mean, as long as I order the official things I've got to test, it doesn't matter if other people have stuff that's not on the list, does it?

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but any help would be much appreciated.

Just to let you know I've done quite a few of these where I've taken DH and my 2 DD and I have never asked for separate reciepts. We have ordered pizza and salad bowl and 2 drinks for the adults along with a side order and 2 childrens meals with salad bowls and drinks included and none of mine have ever been queried.

It's the same as you'd not get many people under 30 walking into a bank saying that they have £xxx, xxx to invest. Yes, it happens, but generally, it'd be older people doing that, the same as it'd be older people shopping for luxury motors.

Companies are [almost] always interested in the views of someone of the same demographics as their typical shoppers. Yes, there are some odd exceptions, like a Restaurant Chain who don't allow MSers under 26, despite the fact that I've never seen anyone aged more than about 35 in there!

Yes, it's pants when it stops you doing a shop that you know you'd go to "in real life", but there's not much you can do about it so no point getting worked up about it.

:rotfl::rotfl:I have many friends in their 50's who are computer savvy, they own them, buy them all on their own (no spotty youths needed:eek:) and are quite able to handle a discussion on the specs etc...:)

Not a winger or s sh*t stirer but a customer - there are a whole lot of 50 plus customers who all have pc's, laptops, mobiles etc ... so it really is as Blindman says a customer profile error to exlude a massive part of their customer base - more fool them;)

Perhaps the stereotype image loses them sales and a more open view may increase the number of sales?;)

it would be a good idea if they did 'young' visits and 'older' visits around the same time and then they will be able to compare the level of service and the recommended products. gr esp ask what you were recommended and did you think this was suitable so if they try assuming 'young' people want gadgets galore and 'older' people want a simple thing with no extras then that would certainly catch them out!

my horse came last and so no win for me  better luck next week!

  • Heard back from Gap about taking children on the stamps visits:

"Unfortunately you cannot take another person or child with you when completing UK Post assignments."

So at least I know for certain, even if it's annoying.

Oh dear! I hadnt even thought about that. I been taking my 4 month LO with me on all of my assignments!! only 1 for Gap) Eeeek!!! better not do that again! It didnt say on the brief so I didnt even think twice about it....

What happened to the new 50s being 40. We both are knowledgeable about PCs but my OH helps 'younger' friends with hardware and software problems etc. I agree that a variety of ages should be used for MS and compare the time and level of service provided!
