Oh dear, I buy all my clothes from M&S - I can tell I'm going to have problems when my daughter gets old enough to have an opinion about clothes...

I have looked there but our branch had very little in her size, it was all geared towards age 8 and under.

Matalan is usually ok but we never got that far today. :D

Ah, yes you prob need a bigger store then. If you ever do happen in one that has more available - their jeans are amazing....mine, which i wear daily (i only wear h&m jeans usually and they have tons of styles) have lasted ages, i have some that still look perfect after 3 yrs+ of wear. And at £15 max a pair they are well worth it. New Look and Tammy don't compare in quality IMO (i only wear kiddies jeans/trousers due to being so tiny) and they can be dressed up with pretty tops and dressed down with hooded jumpers and plain t's if your daughter wants. All are fashionable too - mainly skinny jeans and thicker jegging types at the mo as thats whats in fashion but they have standard styles too.

I personally think some good pairs of slim/skinny jeans that can be dressed up or down are better than following the latest trend of skirt/dress style that will so soon be untrendy with the youngsters and thus a waste of money ;)

Oh dear, i am going to have some fun with my DD when she hits that stage - NOT!!! Lol!

I bought some clothes in October last year from there, and some of their stuff is really good.

My mum always shops there so I've never though of it as a place to go to, but I was pleasantly surprised. My DD was lucky enough to be bought some stuff from there and it was really lovely, and trendy.

Next time.. do not go into primark then you don't have to say no to the junk on the racks!

I do BHS, Debenhams (sale bits are fab.) Next, M&S etc.. They tend to have very little in the way of slapper clothes for little girls!.. at 10 they are little girls still!! My 13 year old is just starting to be allowed to decide on her own clothes but has very smple taste and my 15 y/o is just emo so very easy to buy for! They boys wear long sleeve t-shirts and combats and jeans.

Actually.. I have 8 children, inc 5 girls.. I do a HUGE catalogue order (quidco cashback/free returns/sale leaflet stuff) so I choose what they get and if they like something and it fits well they can keep it.. if not.. it goes back.

I hate shopping.. I hate there being other people in my way. I hate shopping for other people when they dither around.. I decide what I want and go get it.. I get aisle rage in tesco and want to mow people down with my trolley!!

Shoes are the bane of my life.. 8 children = 4-8 shopping trips a year + low ankles bones, high instep, hypermobility so 2 MUST have boots..no compromise.. = 1 super-wide + 2 super-narrow = one very very stressed mummy!!

Trainers, shoes, boots, football boots... slightly better than when I had 4 doing dance though.. ;)

  • I know exactly what you mean, i wish for the days when i could choose my lads clothes, hes 8. Now he will only wear tracksuits and sports clothing.
I also shop for my niece the same age, At weekend i went to look in George and was horrified at the fashion mini adults type clothing not atall what I want her to wear. Next clothes are alot better and seem more suitible, the quality is good and prices arnt bad, also tk max have some good buys that are trendy but it can take a few trips to find the right things.
I agree with you about primark the few clothes ive had from there just dont last which is great if you can go shopping every couple of weeks but not sutible for lasting a full season.
The other places i look for a bargain is M&M DIRECT and Half cost. whilst you could never kit your daughters wardrobe from these places you can pick up some key pieces at good value.
Do you have any outlet stores near you where they will sell brand shoes but cheaper as they will be end of line or last season stock? Or let her find a sutible pair on the high street then search online to find them cheaper.
I would stick to your guns about not wearing tacky tastless clothes, and ride it out, there is pleanty of time in the future to agrue about it, like when she gets a partime job and buys her own!!
She is 10 and still a child even tho she would like to "look" older.
    Good Luck

She got a few things from there, it was just certain items which were obviously poorly made I had an issue with. It was an exercise in compromise. No point in simply refusing outright, better to look and explain why certain things are not worth buying.

Unfortunately not, we're in the Highlands of Scotland and choice isn't plentiful altough we do have the usual suspects like M&S, Next, Debenhams, New Look, Matalan etc.

my boys, have been like your dd since they were around the same age.
ds1 only wears jeans and shirts, usually with a tie, ds2 always wears trackies and t-shirts, but always got to be branded makes. they are identical twins, soon to be 15, and absolutly will not wear anything unless its something they've chosen themselves
enjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)
