Poor you, both on the itchy rash and the spend. I have quite an alergy to ivy too...I find Aloe Vera gel works wonders ...the itchy rash just calms down so quickly! Mind you I must be careful not to rub my arms...or the itching starts all over again, even days later!

Nowadays, I try to cover up when working with ivy - long sleeves and a scarf round my neck. I was dressed like this on Saturday, it was a bit hot - I got a few funny looks from passers-by :rotfl: Once I had finished hacking the ivy off the wall, I went inside, changed my top (and bra!), washed my upper body completely (also brushed my hair well and rubbed with the damp facecloth), before putting on clean clothes. I also rubbed on Aloe Vera gel, before donning more factor 50 ....I still have a small area of itchiness on each arm just above where my gloves finish, but that is all. So much better that I used to be...rash all over my upper body, and little sleep for a week!.

Our little cottage is over 300 years old, so a lot of the ivy has been around for quite a time. I had hardly had any contact with ivy before moving here 14 years ago, and it is everywhere, in both hedges (on either side of back garden), as well as over all the walls at the front...or rather it was..:D. I uncovered one of our gateposts on Saturday..it looks really lovely now.

Thank you so much for this advice, will definitely try the aloe vera gel next time i attempt any contact with the ivy!!!! (& won't do it in a vest & flip flops with no gloves on!!)
Well done for your progress in clearing it, i can definitely sympathise with what a thankless task it is. Have you managed to find anything that keeps it away for good?
I have it growing all up the side of my house (not a pretty cottage though unfortunately) & it's starting to push the bathroom window out now, i have visions of arriving home one day to find my bathroom window in the back garden (or taking a bath!!) :rotfl:

failure today! like I said before, I seriously need some work shoes as all mine are at the end of their sort shoe-ish lives. So I've kept an eye on ebay and bought these, slightly used:

    http://manolobig.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/2_classic_almeria_21.jpg

for the princely sum of £27. That was a wee bit more than I hoped to spend, but the manufacturer sells them for well over £100 so I guess its not so bad! I have massive feet as well so its quite rare that I can find a boot in my size.

So not as fabulous as butdoineedit's fabulous tree hat, but onwards and upwards and fingers crossed for the rest of the week!

Nottoobadyet, they are fabulous & look so much more expensive than £27.
Think you have a good buy there :)

It's just taken me an hour to read through all the posts since Friday!

I really excited by the tartan shoes although this is more my style. I've now got the shoes to go with the skirt!

Curlygirl, good tip about the toilet rolls/tissues. My children go through toilet rolls far too quickly for my liking (but at least that means they wipe:eek:)

Spoon, before I forget, this weekend I had three NSDs so that's 13 NSDs for me. I might have to join those amending their targets...but not yet! Oh, I can't knit, have tried many times but thanks for the idea anyway. I always seem to be spending my spare time on this thread.....

Well, despite "knowing" before I went out this morning that today wasn't going to be an NSD, I can now officially declare that it became NSD #7 :T

Had a look on-line at the mechanics to listen to CDs in my car before I went out, and spotted a gadet that looks like it could work with my (rather aged) MP3 player. So I'm going dig out the latter and then go and check out the former before spending on a portable CD player.

Had a fantastic day out with OH, made even better by the fact he paid for my cuppa in a cafe and then offered me the choice of eating in another cafe or going back to his and him cooking (with an apology it would 'only' be a cheese omelette). Very quickly took him up on the second option, as I think the cafe would have been expensive (due to location) and I'd have felt obliged to fight with him over the bill.

Eye had improved enough by this morning that I decided I'll be up to work tomorrow - but as I'm not long home and still have my uniform to iron before turning in (and a 5:30am get up for a 7am-4pm shift), I'm now beginning to regret making that decision ;) OH took one look at it when I got to his and suggested that if I walked three paces behind him - and he turned and yelled at me every few minutes - then people could feel safe and secure in their assumptions I got it from him :rotfl:
