    c) Recipe for rhubarb cake please *wipes crumbs from mouth on sleeve* iss-ggguuuuuuuud *ghhmpppgghhmmpp-gaaaarr*

200g trimmed rhubarb cut into small pieces
    50g demerara sugar
    150g sunflower spread
    150g caster sugar
    3 eggs
    100g self raising flour
    100g ground almonds
    60g custard powder
    25g flaked almonds

    Preheat oven to 180/350/gas4
    Prepare cake tin
Place rhubarb in a pan with the demerara sugar & cook until softened (approx 10 mins over a low to medium heat).
Meanwhile cream together caster sugar & spread until pale & fluffy, add the eggs one at a time, adding 1tbsp of the flour with each egg.
Fold in the remaining flour along with the ground almonds & custard powder
Drain the rhubarb & save the juice. Gently fold the rhubarb into the mixture then spoon into the prepared tin. Scatter the flaked almonds over the top & bake for 45-50 mins.
Allow to cool in the tin then transfer to a serving plate. Using a skewer make a few small holes in the top of the cake & gently pour over the saved rhubarb syrup.
If desired sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.

Keiss - ...well done for your progress in clearing it, i can definitely sympathise with what a thankless task it is. Have you managed to find anything that keeps it away for good?
I have it growing all up the side of my house (not a pretty cottage though unfortunately) & it's starting to push the bathroom window out now, i have visions of arriving home one day to find my bathroom window in the back garden (or taking a bath!!) :rotfl:
The best way to remove ivy is to cut it at ground-level and leave it to start to die off for a while (a week or two, or if you can bear it, more that that). This will mean that it will be easier to take all those adventitious roots that are stuck to the wall...it will lessen the problem of removing the bricks/mortar with the ivy! :( It does mean things are happening while you are doing other things! :) Don't worry if you can't wait, just be careful in removing some of the more firmly attached stems. Once you have got the ivy down to near/ground level, when new shoots appear, allow a few to grow, then spray with a glyphosate-based weedkiller (eg round-up etc) if you can. Repeat regularly through the growing season, and you should win in the end! I don't use sprays very much, but do resort to them for pernicious weeds (eg ground elder, bindweed and couch-grass)...they keep coming from next door, so I have to keep at it! You can get much more permanent weed killer, but it will kill everything in the ground in the vicinity,,,but if that is what you want....:)

Declaring today as another NSD, that makes 10 now...so have to find 5 more in the next 10 days...really hope I can make it!

Yesterday was a major spending day :(...can't remember when I last did a major Mr T shop in person...never again! I was so shattered..not good for my back at all, not to mention my purse :o. Anyway, spent over £100  , but I only got a couple of things that weren't on the shopping list. I just got lots of our regular stuff...a many of which were on offers which end this week. I am still under budget...so here's hoping I can reach both my GC and NSD targets this month.

    Have a great day everyone.

Wasn't going to get my MSE fix till tonight but BigMummaF you have got to see
this (sorry picture wouldn't copy for me) ETA:Sorry, appears link does not work. Basically they are waders but in a brown camoflage type pattern (a bit more flash than black BMF!)

    and the best thing.....

    the blurb says this.....

    • Revolutionary, soft touch, silent outer shell :)
    • Unique thermal construction for extra warmth
    • Removable braces :D
    • Adjustable velcro gusset:eek: Just had a thought, if they are waterproof waders why would you want a hole in the gusset? Surely that defeats the object of being waterproof, I mean, a hole lets in water doesn't it? Or am I really missing the point here.....
Will catch up with today's posts later. Hope you're all having fun in the sun :)
