iPhone 3GS vs HTC Desire - Help needed!

Hi all
I was hoping for some advice – ultimately only I can make the decision, but obviously advice from people may help me come to a decision.
Basically I use an iPhone 3Gs on Orange, and the signal is pretty dismal to be honest, rarely have a 3G connection at work (seems ok in when outdoors and in town centres etc), it would randomly drop down to a 2G service after ‘searching’ for a short period of time....this drove me mad so I decided to purchase a HTC Desire on T-Mobile....all seems good so far, apart from these really annoying things...
1) The feel of the handset battery cover worries me, having had the iPhone which is as solid a build as you will find, it seems loose (and I had loose parts on a mobile phone)
2) The Facebook app – you cannot read messages nor send them – again, compared to the iPhone app this is ridiculous – also read when you upload photos direct from phone it shrinks them to 296pixels – don’t quote me on that!
3) Having been waiting for me PAC Code to go through I have not used the handset all weekend (it has only been connected to wi-fi) – I went to use it this morning and it had no internet connection at all – simply putting the phone into standby and back out resolved this, but I don’t feel it is something I should need to do.....
4) Having read the HTC Hero (G2) has problems using the 3G service, it worries me if this will be a problem, as once I find out it might be a problem, I will be out of the 7 days to return for a refund
Now these ‘problems’ are small, but they are doubts, and I don’t want to start an 18 month contract when I am not ‘sure’ about the handset.
Dont get me wrong, then handset is brilliant, feels good in the hand, camera is awesome, screen is clear, runs like a dream....I can also sell my 3Gs and make upwards of £300 as its in immaculate condition.
But also, if I choose to return the handset, my contract with Orange is now terminated (as I used my PAC code) and will I also lose my number? Or if I cancel can I request a PAC from T-Mobile to take the number (which is pretty much a gold number) back to Orange (or another network)?
Any help and advice is appreciated as always.

The Legend or Desire for me any day of the week over the iphone, plenty of apps around for android, capacitive screen OLED screen too, plus excellent battery life. Have a look at the reviews.0

How much you sell your iPhone for, and where did you sell it?0 -
I just ordered Desire today, I'm looking forward to following this discussion and how to iron out any problems.
I ordered it through T-mobile on the 24month £10 +£164 deal
I had become so tired and frustrated with my Motorola Razr.
I am so excited about this phone. Just trying to work out the best colour, graphite or black, but tmobile didn't give me an option at the time.0 -
Ive ordered the desire, t-mobile £25/month 18 months with free web.0

I was feeling quite pleased to have got my £10 per month T-mobile deal as it was 100 (anytime) mins , 100 texts and unlimited internet as well plus flexible booster. I heard about it on Amazon while reading the comments. I realise I was very lucky to have accidentally noticed the deal!!0 -
Yes, I am in a bit of a predicament, like the HTC, brilliant handset, it just aint the iPhone...
and then if I upgrade now, and the iPhone is out in June, and its amazing I am gonna kick myself!
