Not a definite no, just as long as you are aware of what you are getting. A lot of regulars on here are switching to connecting flights and actually enjoying getting off the plane for a stretch and the plus of clearing customs at your point of entry.0 -

used VS couple of weeks back gatwick to orlando and all was well, they have got a few different IFE systems in use on the 747 fleet based at LGW so it is hit and miss which you get.
must admit the LHW fleet is better than the LGW based stuff but all in all they are better than other airlines i have used before BA,AA and Hawaiin for example.
My experience is there is no comparison. the heathrow fleet is a far superior product0 -

I actually enjoy connecting flights, breaks up the journey nicely, and a chance to see a different airport*!

Blimey! I hate all the messing about and unneccessary waiting, drives me nuts and is an expensive waste of time. Just get me on the plane and wake me up when it's all over!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

second that especially when they charge $7.50 for a beer like at MIA last week.0 -
Don't forget BA fly direct from Heathrow now. They were cheaper than Virgin too for my dates. The BA 777 fleet is a far more consistent, and superior product to Virgin's Gatwick fleet.
Only problem with BA being if the cabin crew decide to go back to work!0 -
Virgin are very free with the booze on a LGW to LAS flights :beer:0

we used to fly Virgin exclusively as we preferred a direct flight - but last time flew AA with a connection and are doing the same again in a few days time. Most of the complaints about Virgin are irrelevant to us (we bring our own entertainment, don't care if we don't get to drink ourselves silly, etc) and the direct flight outweighted the old planes we thought...but having flown AA - it's so much nicer an experience even with the connection we think. Pairs of seats on both sides of the plane so a very good chance at not being crammed next to a stranger for hours on end and all that...plus we got lucky and our last flights earned enough q-points to do the platinum challenge, so are looking forward to the benefits of being platinum shortly.
It is a relative thing - if you want to get there as quick as possible - it's pretty much BA or Virgin. If you're open to a connection, then a lot more options are available.
The other thing to consider is the type of plane - especially with connecting flights...depending on which of several flights a day you choose, you may end up on smaller or larger aircraft. We specifically choose AA flights on 777s as we know we like them...we specifically avoided flights that use a 767. Their 777s have seat-back screens and the films are all on a loop starting every 20 mins or so...the 767s have the overhead drop-down screens so it's one movie for everyone. Things like that people tend to not look at when booking and can end up disappointed and with vastly different experiences.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Air New Zealand has a good reputation for economy comfort - LHR - Los Angeles then a change for LAX - Vegas
ANZ have had promotions recently to LAX - I am unsure if they are still running them though. I booked a few weeks ago for a short break in LA (OCT) for around £374.00 (ex LHR) with seats also booked (free of charge).
I flew with them to Honolulu some time ago and they were excellent - hopefully their standards have not dropped.0
