I allways fly direct with Virgin from Gatwick.
  • Gatwick would be best but heathrow would be fine, economy class .

I heard that flying with gatwick , virgin use older planes and are not very comfortable ?

I did fly with Southwest once but it took about 16 hours to get there. Never again.
Virgin might use their older planes from Gatwick but your there in 10 hours 50 mins.
Virgin are also doing the Gatwick fleet up next year so things should improve.

Air New Zealand has a good reputation for economy comfort - LHR - Los Angeles then a change for LAX - Vegas

They were. It's now unlikely to happen until 2012/13 though uncertain whether thats commencement or completion?

... which is why we have taken the decision to postpone the retrofit of our 8 Gatwick and Manchester 747-400 aircraft with new IFE and the latest seat products. It is still our intention to find an ideal long-term solution for these important leisure routes to ensure we have a better and more consistent level of product offering across the fleet. Once we have a clearer idea of how this will proceed we will of course further update the business.

In the meantime, please rest assured that we are working much more closely with our IFE suppliers to ensure we have appropriate maintenance support and cover for these aircraft in place. We also have a selection of reserve hand held entertainment games on standby should they be required....

In other words they know its crap, but when you complain they deny all knowledge and say "we havent had anyone else complain"

Sounds about right dont know how they get away with it, something should be said to say when booking , so using Virgin then is a big no no then . Well until they update there fleet.

i say use VS direct from gatwick, done the trip a few times never had any problems.
used VS couple of weeks back gatwick to orlando and all was well, they have got a few different IFE systems in use on the 747 fleet based at LGW so it is hit and miss which you get.

must admit the LHW fleet is better than the LGW based stuff but all in all they are better than other airlines i have used before BA,AA and Hawaiin for example.
