    if it was a mock orange it would have been in flower when you moved in and in july too. Lovely smell you can't have missed the flowers, and you should have twigs not hedge at the moment.

    This very unusual in this country but if down south the only thing, I can think of that could smell spicy is common myrtle (Myrtus communis).

    Try googling "japonica". There are lots of different varieties, they're oval-leaved and evergreen and some of them smell wonderful.

    well i saw one in someones gardena nd asked them what it was, she said mock orange, the leaves smell exactly the same and it looks exactly the same??

    i dont remember it in flower last year, its definately an evergreen?

  • it sounds like Choisya ternata the mexican orange blossom. It is evergreen and has aromatic leaves. The ordinary type is green leaved but there are yellow leaved varieties available. I am certain that is what you have.
