Thifty - I have a similar problem here with the lawns - they just dont drain very well and are more moss than grass. My Dad (who is very knowledgeable about such things ) told me after much research that we need to dig a deep gravel pit at the highest point of the garden so that the water goes there instead. If it is under a lawn that you don't want to lift then the tedious job of deep spiking every few inches and filling with sand will help a little as long as you keep on doing it. Other options - cut a hole and plant a thirsty tree with nice deep roots. Not some horrid conifer that will blight your garden but something nice to look at that won't block the sun. Or work with what you have, rip the lot up and have a stunning bog garden :D. I don't think you are that far from me BTW.
Greenbee - It is looking good already, some great shapes to work with and a mangeable size if you pick the right plants and mulch. The clematis sounds lovely through the apple tree. Clematis are one of my favourite things.

About the lawn... apparently (according to my dad) we're putting land drains in before the turf goes down, which should help. At the moment I seem to be developing a small swimming pool.

I love clematis too.... and roses (which like the clay) so I may put a pergola outside where the new shed is going so that I can have lots of them (and honeysuckle too...) as I'm limited as to space for climbers otherwise. The utility room will have clematis growing up it, as will the trellis by the drainpipe (I've got a viticella polish spirit in a pot to go back there). I used to have a passion flower over the doors, but it was a bit rampant... I might go for something a little more manageable this time... I have lots of roses & clematis round the front too... they help disguise the ugly 1950s house!

Lots of vibes for you LO too GnB...

    Better do some work

  • Morning!

I am off this week and am determined to get 5 stars! I am doing the main bedroom today so will claim that star on the right day. Pigpen - you'd be impressed - i am washing the curtains right now!!!!! Also doing a mommoth declutter from each room as I go, mainly OH's stuff as he keeps....................rubbish  things like receipts and empty wrappers.............no idea why!!!

Sandy I am thinking of you and hope you will be ok. At least you are in the right place now and they can look after you. :kisses: I would have been too late for the elephant but would have waited outside - I'm the one plastered in mud with 2 even muddier dogs!

Greenbee your garden looks lovely already and will look even more gorgeous when everything is planted and growing.

Thank you the marvellous 3 for the lists..........now I'd better carry on.

    Take care

    1 step xxxxxxx

Had just finished another HHC ready to jump on the elephant, so sorry Sandy has already had to go into hospital, hopefully she will get some news sooner now though. I will continue to fly with Sandy in my thoughts x

I have just vacuumed through downstairs and cleared all the floors, need to move upstairs now.

Sandy says thanks. She's understandably very, very scared, but I think knowing that we're all thinking of her is helping (or at least distracting her).
