Garage conversion concrete or wooden floor?

We used the Garage Conversion Company and they were very efficient in actually doing the work to schedule and spec 10year insurance backed guarantee and our local franchisee was a member of the FMB (for what that is worth!)
We had wooden floor. Concrete would be rather expensive I would imagine due to man hours required and also increased waiting time whilst it all dries. Would be best if you are thinking of a wet underfloor heating systme though.0 -
Wow thanks, shame you don`t live nearer.
I have just spoken to Building Control - he was bothered about insulation, electrics and fire! so said I need an escape window at the front. This would look absolutely stupid as I have large windows with 2 top openers.... not a single builder I had out has told me that. I`m getting sorry I started this. Happened to say garage conversion done in the last month round the corner hasn`t got a fire escape window (guess what the house isn`t on their system!!) me and my big mouth!
I have another builder coming round tomorrow to give me a quote will be intresting to see what he says.
Think I`ll just clear it out and put my car back in.0 -
I had my garage done last summer. My floor followed the same procedure as plaster's photographs. I carpeted the area and its warm and toasty on the feet. We had a flat roof so we replaced it with a double hipped roof and put in a velux to increase the natural light as well as french windows at one end.
We didnt need planning and we added 2msq to either end of the garage as well as adding a utility/toilet.
Total cost £13k inc. VAT.0 -
Thanks all for your replies, unfortunately I can`t extend just have to make do. did you all have to get escape windows?0

In the pictures, it was a complete new extension - so insulation had to go in. I always take photos on big jobs like this so that buiilding control don't hold me up - Just show them the photos if they ask, then they are happy (Usualy :rotfl:) I'm supprised still that the buiilders/surveyors spec didnt include insulation to aid the u values.0 -
Hi Plasterer, what are u values please.0
