My daughter has been given two young rabbits and has been quoted, by the vet, as follows;
bunny jabs £48.92 each ( 2 lots of jabs )
6mths later booster jabs £30.00 each
nail clipping £10.00 each neede for bunnies and g.pigs
Are these jabs really necessary?. When she was of an age and had rabbits, I dont remember spending out money for jabs.

I would say they are necessary, especially myxi depending on your area, and if they are recommending vacc every 6 months, I guess you have it. Every year I put a large number of pet and wild rabbits to sleep with myxi, its heartbreaking, so please vaccinate. You don't want tears as you tried to save the pennies. But-those prices seem a little high, we charge less than £15 for myxi(twice yearly) and abour £11 for VHD(yearly)0 -
Thanks for the reply hotcookie.
My daughter lives in Surrey, so I quess she can expect to pay more.“Everything comes to pass, nothing comes to stay.”0 -
Yes, they are essential. Myxo is the most hideous disease for a rabbit - even worse than rabies. Rabbits die a very slow and painful death with myxo. VHD kills very quickly - is one day your rabbit is OK, the next dead. Myxo does need to be done every 6 months, VHD every year. Myxo is done first and some of the vaccine should be injected just under the skin in the ear, then the rest in the neck. Then there is a two week gap before the VHD jab is given.
I pay £30 for both jabs and I am in London.
Your rabbits will also need to have Panacur paste every 6 months - this costs about £7 per rabbit. This is a wormer that prevents E.cunicul. E.cunicul is a protozoan parasite of rabbits, which can cause partial or completer paralysis and kidney. If the organism migrates to the eyes it can result in sudden onset of eye inflammation and cataracts. If the organism travels to the brain, several possible scenarios can occur. The protozoa may just form cysts in the brain tissue and cause no damage or if the protozoa reproduces in the brain it can it can cause rupture of cells resulting in a severe inflammatory reaction. It is not known if the damage to the nervous system is due to the E. cuniculi organism itself or from an immune response to the organism. Regardless, infected rabbits can have partial or complete rear limb paralysis, head tilts, tremors or convulsions.

Definitely essential. If you ring round different vets you might find them cheaper though, those prices are very high.
As for nail clipping...I never take my buns to the vets for this, i do it at home. Althoguh obviously only do that if you are confident with it, you dont want to stress bunny out of cut into the quick.August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -

Agree re the nails - I'm not brave enough though! My pair are very wriggly LOL. Want to pop round and do my bunnies nails for me?0 -
if you are within cycling distance of daventry i would be happy to!
my boy is a terrible wriggler, i often do a paw, let him hope about for an hour or two, do another, etc etc. otherwise he gets too frantic having them all done at once.
also if you search "bunny burrito" on youtube you will see how to restrain them with a towel while you do it.August grocery challenge: £50

There are two little white and tan twin bunnies (domestic) living in my garden. They feast on the bird food and now I've bought Russel Rabbit food for them.
But what to do with them?
I think they may have entered when they were tiny, and now can't get out.
Please no one suggest I catch them. They are faster than lightening.
I had to turn the lawn man away earlier in case he poisened the grass.
He said the cat that was here would get them.
Help anyone.0
