It depends how many people are on the network to what your speeds will on ADSL Max i hear it varies all the time , not many people will get 8mb either unless they are right next to the exchange.

BT keeps promising to upgrade us.but still on 1meg and most of the neighbours across the road are on 8mb. BT say it's the line we are on isn't upgraded, so why do they keep upgrading the other line??? Why are we still with them?? No idea.0

BT are not going to change a perfectly good telephone network so people can get peace of mind of another 1mb speed on broadband, broadband has & always be seen as a comodity, if the telephone service does no longer work or is dated then we'll see an change. (21CN is the new wave of technology coming through)
Hello?????? Perfectly good network because of broadband??? Old, copper wires???? It’s not a favour BT are doing ‘us’, it’s a service that we pay for and a poor service at that. If you live outside a cabled area BT have a monopoly and that can’t be right.0 -
Ok, another update
BT has been monitoring my speed and they say it’s acceptable!!!!!!!!!!
Waitrose have conveyed this message to me and I have told them (again) that’s its not acceptable to me!! And from the many pm’s/emails I have received, many others feel the same way.
Two nights ago it dropped to 1.7MB and it seems to average at about 3MB. From what I can gather I AM LUCKY!! BT needs reminding what century we are in!
I have told Waitrose that I do not find it acceptable and to please pursue my complaint as once again if you don’t hop up and down things will stay the same and BT will get away with supplying an inferior service.0 -

So because a cable company wont come & install a service in your area that means that BT are the ones to blame? Give me a break, complain to the cable companies for not servicing your area!!! :rolleyes:0 -
I can't help but feel that you are on a loser here. Unless BT have changed their terms recently. They don't have to guarantee any broadband service on your line. They only have to guarantee that you can make/receive normal phone calls. There are still some people that can't get any broadband service. Others can only have a maximum of 512Kb service.
All the companies offering ADSL Max do not guarantee 8Mb speeds. They offer up to 8Mb. This is because ADSL Max is very dependent on distance from the exchange, and the quality of the phone line.
If you change broadband providers to another company offering Max, You will get exactly the same speeds. The speed you are seeing is obviously what your line can sustain. It will be the same with another company. BT will not change your line just so you can get better broadband speeds. They have no remit to do this in their terms of service. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

And yes I have asked cable companies and was told not in the foreseeable future.0 -

Thanks Rex for the above and most of what you say has already been covered by others and agreed with! And yes I am probably on a hiding to nothing but my mane beef was about being charged the same as other customers for an inferior service and we seem to have gone of the track a little. It is important to remember that WE are the customer and providing an equal service to all should be the norm and when people say ‘oh just accept that BT is crap’, then I for one think its unfair and not acceptable.0
