OS Daily Thread - Sunday 28th March

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 28th March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning lovely OS-ers!
Hope you all remembered to put your clocks forward..
welcome2.gifEC12 - Good luck with your challenge and hope you will keep posting!
Taplady - The tadpoles live on the sideboard actually but were on the table that morning as I had just cleaned them out. They will be in the fish tank soon, and will live in there til they are baby froglets and then they go out into the tiny pond outside. It's so fascinating watching them change and develop.
Gemmabuckle - Sorry to hear that your offer wasn't accepted. Good luck with the next one.
sistercas - None of my chillies have germinated so far this year either which is odd.
snoozer - hugs.gif
Donny - I now feel I should stop mentioning what I am cooking as I am not inspiring enough.. giggle.gifgiggle.gif Trouble is, I am not the best at being OS and am worried if I don't mention it, I will get booted off the thread..:rotfl::rotfl:
flutterby - I ADORE stationery! Bit of an addiction for me too.
Bitsy - Hope your cold is better now hon and your husband looks fab.. well done him.
Kitchenbunny - Great to see you back with us.
Stroppyjock - My OH used to be Station Manager for a branch line station so I can empathize.
Julie - well done on making a decision, you must feel so much better now.
Tru - Way to go!
csarina - Great embroidery, you are so talented. Sorry to be so dim but what are the items you have made in the second pic?

HShungry.gif Ok, well my boring meals today giggle.gif will be a nice fry up for brunch and dinner is roast pork with roast potatoes and green beans, leeks (HG) and sprouts (HG and frozen) and we are also cooking a 3kg gammon in cola this afternoon so we can slice it and freeze it for meals and lunchtime sandwiches.

Not OS but money saving news - I bought myself a new digital camera in the Tescos sale. I found a £10 off voucher over on the vouchers forum and then due to having NOT done so much shopping in Tescos the last three months, (thanks to doing the storecupboard and Grocery challenges) I still had all the clubcard vouchers from before Christmas so used those to get another £25 off. I also got 3% cashback from Topcashback. It arrived yesterday morning and is sooo gorgeous.. and exceedingly pink!!
Hope you all have a relaxed and happy Sunday. With love, light and warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one.

Good morning, MSD. Yes, I forgot the clocks go forward here, too. I was so tired when I went to bed that it just went right out of my head! Now I shall have to go round the house changing all the clocks.

Csarina - your sewing is brilliant. I can knit and crochet until the cows come home but, although I can do basic sewing, I've never been very good at it. I don't know why - both my sisters and my Mum can do it!

Well, I can hear that it's still raining here. Most of last week was lovely but it has rained on and off since Friday; not very spring-like at all.

Food in this house today will consist of porridge for breakfast, roast pork with potatoes, carrots, cabbage and gravy, with strawberries (bought yesterday and they're delicious) with creme fraiche for dinner (which I'll do at lunchtime as it's Sunday), and tea will be left over salad with cold meat, probably.

DH should finish tiling the hall floor today. He's had to spend a lot of time levelling the floor before tiling it, so it has taken longer than he thought it would. He took me out to show me a rug he had seen in town but he's colour blind and the one he liked was so wrong both in colour and design, it would have really clashed with the new tiles; it was really horrid! We couldn't find another one we liked so the hunt goes on.

Well, I'd better go and get the kettle on again - can't believe I've already lost an hour today but it means it will stay light for longer this evening; even that will make it feel like summer is on the way.

    Have a good Sunday, everyone.

Good Morning Diva and Mioliere and all who follow.
Diva - we've got roast pork today too!
Mioliere - ope you find the "right" rug soon.
Late night last night and still awake by 5am this morning - and having remembered the clocks too!
Have a load of towels in the WM as I type. The decorator did a fantastic job last week, but (coincidentally??) the radiator in the hall began to leak as he cleared up and so far I haven't managed to track down a plumber (well, not strictly true - we've neither of us been in since Friday am apart from to go to bed so couldn't arrange one! Hence I have to keep changing the towel under the radiator!
Anyway, this looks like a busy week in the lead up to Easter, when DS and family should be with us. Whole house needs a tidy and loads of cooking to do. Haven't made Hot Cross Buns for years but am determined to do so, plus Simnel cake, this year. It'd be good to cook the main meals for next w/e in advance too - church is incredibly busy so good to have things done early.
need to try to reduce the ironing pile yet again in a minute - it tries to make a bid for freedom every time I open the cupboard door. Nothing OS yesterday as DH was chairing a meeting in London which I had agreed to minute, and we went to friends for dinner on our return. It was such a lovely evening - eight of us, all good friends. Nothing beats good food and excellent company! (Which reminds me - need to get thankyou note written too!)
Enjoy Palm Sunday everyone - and ((HUGS)) to anyone who needs one today.
    Take care.

Good morning everyone. Hope you are well this Sunday morning. I'm up and about early again, but at least I slept pretty much the entire night. If it hadn't of been for 2 kips I took yesterday afternoon then I would probably have slept straight through. That makes me happy.

I'm trying with a sense of renewed OSiness now. There are a lot of things I want to do this year and I can't do them on normal money. That said, there's a lot of OSly things I want to do this year. I want to gather some friends and go for a big picnic in the park - that sort of thing - so it shouldn't cost too much. :) Got to make my list and cross things off!

Yesterday was alright. A friend came over, and I spent some good quality time with MSE. As normally happens I fell asleep during the F1 qualifying (nothing to do with the sport, honestly!) and during the film last night, but in between that I managed to put a little asterisk against most of the L*kel*nd Kitchenware Catalogue as Christmas and Birthday present material. ;) The spicy chicken and chorizo stew I made in the slow cooker on Friday turned out to be deliciously comforting with a dollop of mash - I'm glad there are more portions in the freezer!

Today, I'm not sure what is going to happen. I'm hoping for a nice relaxing day with DH, trying to recover a bit more before going back to work tomorrow. I have some work to do on my cross stitch, too. Plus I've got another one to measure up and frame from last year! I think we'll have spaghetti bolognese for tea. There's a garlic bread in the freezer and I just fancy it.

Beemuzed - I really feel like trying to make a simnel cake this year. I've talked myself out of it though and will make some Easter Cupcakes though - complete with pretty swirled chocolate buttercream frosting and some Mini Eggs on top. Tasty!

I forgot about the clocks. My alarm clock updates itself by satellite, so when I came through to the front room and saw the rest of the clocks still saying it was half past five I seriously considered going back to bed!

Hope everyone has a good day. (((hugs)))

Morning all, damp and driech up here today, and quite chilly too.

What a day at work yesterday, a suicide on the tracks just before I took over caused mayhem all day and night, thats the second one in three weeks, and withoutn sounding harsh it's such a selfish way to do it, it wrecks the drivers and conductors lives and all those that have to "clean up" :( Then a little weasel has put in a claim for overtime cos I didnt ask him to work, put in a very very unpleasant letter to his boss (I've only been in job four months and still learning the ropes, obviously he didn't expect me to see it ;) but I have some good workmates who gave me the "heads up" and "left the letter on the desk" while he "filled the kettle" so I could prepare my defense :rotfl:)

Never mind last shift before six off, and away to see GF for lazy week, she isn't off so will spoil her with weight watchers meals (they're actually for me but she likes the low fat cooking :)) and cleaning.

Well off for a coffee and watch the GP, got my up daughter for lunch, chicken fricassee, then mascaponi, raspberries and merengue (sp?) for pudd.

Have a good day everyone and hopefully be in touch next week, if not I will be back the week after.

By the way what do the DH DD DS etc letters stand for in some posts?

    Morning all
DH, Dear Hubby, DS Dear Son, DD Dear Daughter, hope that helps Stroppyjock, my hubby travels by train a lot & he always says the same about suicide by train.
Hubby's watching the GP with copious amounts of tea, he'll have a full english for breakfast as he does evey day, roast turkey (already cooked, sliced & frozen) with all the trimmings for lunch.
    Have a good one everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning All - Looks like being a nice day here.

MSD - you are being naughty, I did not mean your meals are boring, mine are!. But Thriftlady was always doing something different, and H-J too, plus others too numerous to mention - come back ladies and inspire us with your meals!!!
Well the chicken breast turned into Chicken Chausseur (sp) but while we were out DH fancied Fish & Chips, so looks like we are having the chicken today!
Washer will go on in a mo, need to get a couple of loads on today, yesterday dried lovely.
Will also be sorting the paperwork out a little!
:grouphug: grab one if you'd like one!

    Good Morning Everyone

Thats not a good way to start a shift Stroppy :(

Missing that hour already :rotfl:but can't wait to see what time it is light to this evening.

Got loads of cleaning done yesterday but more to do today as DD decided to deep clean her room :j so I helped her with that. She also sorted out all her books so have huge piles - keepers, bootsale and charity. Today will get more cleaning done and make sure all the ironing is cleared.

DS has footie match this morning luckily at home, hope it stays dry till after that. M&S Oakham chicken for dinner another free one from my giftcard.

Need to menu plan and do the shopping list today, will actually be going to Mr T this week as they have sent me a £12 off £60 shop as the store is being refurbished at the moment.

Only 4 days of peace left this week before the Easter holidays :(

Off to check the weather forcast this week as I beleive that snow has been mentioned

    Have a great Sunday.x

    Morning all

Stupid body clock cunningly woke me up at half6 this morning which of course is actually half7!! How does it know?! :rotfl: I had an awful night's sleep, combination of not feeling 100%, wierd dreams and needing the loo 3 times! Also I think I need new pillows, so will look for some bargains today online.

But on the plus side I was up in time to watch the Grand Prix, missed first 10laps but thought I'd might as well watch it now rather than hide from news/radio/internet and wait for replay!

Diva - I have a shiny pink camera and love it! I never loose it cos it's so bright :)

It's actually sunny this morning here :D WM is on with towels so I think they will go out to dry today.

I'm going to have a pottering round day, will probably go for a walk by the sea later. Fajitas for dinner (yes I know I've said this many times this week! but I made the sauce yesterday but ended up going out to meet a friend for coffee and spot of late night shopping so didn't eat them in the end!). Scrambled Egg on toast for brunch too.

    Have a good day

Morning All, a little over cast in Manchester here but could brighten up in.

Nice day with the family yesterday. tea was a pasta salad for me, but DS3 and DH had Pizza and chips:eek:. I went for a bath whilst they hoovered up all the calories. DD and DS2 were out for tea and the little one was in bed. We watched a funny movie last night called Just Friends. Nice and easy watching.

Today is my dads birthday so have him and mum and my two DB's and SIL's over for lunch. Doing a leg of lamb and roast chicken with new potatoes, potatoe salad, pasta salad, ordinary salad and french bread. Just going to lay it out and let people help themselves. One brother is bringing the starter and another bringing dessert so not sure what we will end up with, but its a nice idea and means I don't have to do all the work. Any get togethers tend to be at my house as I have more room.

DH finished his water feature in the garden yesterday. he is so proud of it and it does look lovely. next job is to plant out the seeds, once the frost has definitely gone

So far so good with the healthy eating this week. Today will be a challenge though:D

Well did all my washing and ironing yesterday:eek: I knew today would be busy so got it out of the way. Off to Mr T's this morning for french bread. Hope they have remebered about the hour:rotfl:

    Have a lovely Sunday:)

Hello & Scrumptious Sunday Everyone,

We are a clean lot - there's always washing whizzing around. Today's OS effort as follows - I live alone & hand washed a couple of things today & they're dripping on the line. They will often dry (ish) at this time of year.

Beemuzed - early morning ironing - very impressed.
Stroppyjock - 'driech' mmm.... guessing it means gloomy & gunky? Have a good break.
    Simnel cake - sounds good.

I remember being cajoeled to church as a child & on Palm Sunday being given a cross made of raffia type stuff. I still remember the smell of it & trying to undo it & then do it up again during prayers.

Off to BF's house today. We've spotted a garden nursery nearby (we live in the countryside) & they've just opened a cafe. It's in a log cabin & sits in the middle of raggle taggle greenhouses & looks charming. We're going to go for a coffee to check it out & hope it's not too expensive (although I appreciate they're probably struggling to make ends meet).

Anyway, enjoy the day. Many good wishes & hugs to anyone feeling low or uncomfortable. My hot flushes are a nightmare again -four years & still going strong.
