Never, never, send foreign objects to the manufacturer, there is always the possibility that they say it was lost in the post, or received damaged etc etc!
Thanks for that, I will definately be ringing them!0 -
The manager isn't dealing with it, I was sent home with the product and the piece of glass and told to contact the supplier myself, I came home and found out what my rights as a consumer were, so rung the store manager to tell him I was seething that I was sent away when they should have dealt with it there and then, they should have sent it to the manufacturer, he agreed and when I said I was phoning trading standards he didn't argue, they should have dealt with it when they had the opportunity then I wouldn't be taking it further!
Agreed. They had their chance to deal with it and did not. Hopefully the Manager will have alerted his bosses to the fact that there may be a batch of contaminated corned beef doing the rounds in their stores, but I suspect not, therefore Trading Standards should be alerted0 -
Don't know why everyone always goes on about Trading Standards with food, it's Environmental Health who deal with food!0

Contact Enviromental health, we are just getting a shard of metal checked out that was found in Sainsburys mice, they are the people to contact not trading standards0

The mouse must have had fillings!0 -
OMG your due £100,000 for that kind of deliberet contamination.
Dont woory tho, they will test the piece of glass to confirm it was present at manufacture and not added afterwards.0 -

Might be a good idea to take a step back and look at the situation from a 3rd party viewpoint. I think you are creating work for yourself.
If the manager offered to deal with it, then let him. The issue is going to be with the manufacturer anyway, there is no way the supermarket could have known or prevented what happened, even though your contract is indeed with them.
Also, if your motivation for pursuing this is simply to stop it happening again then fine. However if you are hoping for any kind of personal return for your time, bear in mind that 'what if ...' situations have little legal standing. You are due compensation for what actually happened, eg a refund on the product (already offered) and whatever monetary value can be attached to not enjoying a sandwich, which i doubt will be very much.0 -

I have just spoken to Consumer Direct, very helpful guy I spoke to, he said I've been down all the correct channels and given Asda plenty of opportunity to take the product and send for investigation, he also said Asda should have taken a note of the batch number and reported it themselves incase it was a problem with the whole batch.....which they didn't!
He also said I was completely right that as a consumer my legal obligation is with the retailer not the manufacturer, therefore it is Asda's obligation to contact the supplier.
He then said he would pass it to my local trading standards office and that they will be in touch!
Will keep you all updated!0
