glass in corned beef bought in Asda

Options
I was wandering if there was anyone who knows what I should do.....

Last week I bought some corned beed in our local Asda, my partner opened it for lunch today and while eating his sandwich spat out a foreign object, on closer inspection it was a piece of glass!
I rang Asda customer services who said to return it to the store and they would send it all off for further investigation.
I went to our local Asda store, who then said as the product was not an Asda brand they couldn't send it off, it was down to me to send it away and sort out myself, though she would refund me the £1 I paid for it!

There is no details on how to contact the supplier (Forza Aw Ltd) on the packaging apart from an address, so I googled the name when I got home and found that the company is a sliced meat supplier to Asda.

Any ideas where I should go from here? I know I have to contact the supplier but I would have thought Asda should have taken a bit more interest, after all they did sell me the product, what would have happened if it was my 5 or 3 year old children that had eaten it, or worse swallowed it! It was quite a big piece of jagged glass, about 2cm x 1cm.

Help!!!!!!!!!

I would have thought that Asda should have dealt with this. Your contract was with them not their supplier and they should be ensuring that the goods they sell are ok. I'd contact them again and ask to speak to the Manager

I would deal directly with the manufacturer if it's not an Asda product. Much more likely to get a response!

Write to them giving all the details on the tin and where it was bought, along with a photograph of the piece of glass, and ask them to investigate.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Or contact Trading Standards.

I have rung Asda and spoken to the manager, he admitted they should have dealt with it in store, I have found on the internet 'your agreement is with the retailer not the manufacturer, if the retailer tries to fob you off telling you to go to the manufacturer, its wrong!'

So my next port of call is trading standards first thing on monday morning!

    Thanks everyone for your replies!

Definitely Trading Standards! You can contact them via Consumer Direct on: 08454 040506.

Never, never, send foreign objects to the manufacturer, there is always the possibility that they say it was lost in the post, or received damaged etc etc!

Hang on a sec, if the manager of the store is now dealing with the issue why the need to involve TS?

The manager isn't dealing with it, I was sent home with the product and the piece of glass and told to contact the supplier myself, I came home and found out what my rights as a consumer were, so rung the store manager to tell him I was seething that I was sent away when they should have dealt with it there and then, they should have sent it to the manufacturer, he agreed and when I said I was phoning trading standards he didn't argue, they should have dealt with it when they had the opportunity then I wouldn't be taking it further!
