Had the same problem, which just happened to be after I updated the iphone software to the 4.0 version last week, I'd had no problems prior to this. I've ended up playig £40 in top-ups in 1 week, an amount, I'd probably only spend in 1 year as I mostly just use my phone for texts and short calls. How are they getting away with this now and are refunds possible ?

How are who getting away with what?

Why have you got an advanced smart phone phone that is constantly connected to the Internet for such basic needs?

Seeing as it happened since upgrading to iOS4 I would suggest you check all your settings are how you want them, eg push email etc.

I have now sorted out the auto connection, which should stop the problem.

What I was say is, I have had the original settings on all the time for the last year and not had all my credit taken in the way it has since the 4.0 upgrade.

I've read numerous comments here and elsewhere about owners suddenly losing massive amounts of credit.

    Interesting.

The default settings for the iPhone are for contract phones. idata being the way it's done.

Updating will default as idata.o2.co.uk and you will get the message "Not subscribed to a cellular plan" or words to that effect for PAYG.

It will be intersting to see what the affected people have as their APN.
