O2 credit disappearing on iphone
Options
I had over £17.00 credit on my iphone and usually top up £15 a month for free texts and unlimited internet this ran out on the 25th but I still had over £17 to use on txts and calls till I could top up, I sent 23 texts at £2.30 then when I went to use my phone again my balance was zero!
I spoke to O2 who said I had connected to the internet several times which used up my credit, I have a wireless set up at home which I connect to via my iphone which I pay for separately and the times they say it connected I was asleep!
I was told that apparently the iphone connects to the internet automatically for emails and apps etc, which is bad enough but why didn't it use my home wireless like normally intstead of using up all my credit?!?!
Is there a way to get the refunded and a way to stop this from happening again?!?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks:))

Must be a setting somewhere so you cna set it to access a wifi point rather than use your credit0
-
does anyone know where this setting is?0

I'm not sure if this will definitely prevent what's happened from happening again, but if you go to Settings, and then Mail, Conacts, Calender, then Fetch New Data, highlight the Manual option. Then you should only be accessing your email when you want to, rather than it being pushed to your phone???

Are you 100% sure your not click voicemail by accident!
I did that so many times and my vodafone bill was HUGE ha-ha!

When the phone is in standby mode (i.e., screen off), the wifi is switched OFF to save power. Any data sending/receiving in this state will therefore go over the mobile network, and hence you have been charged during the night when the device has been left in standby.
You either need to turn everything OFF that might send/receive data, or get a flat rate data plan.0 -
I had this problem when my iPhone internet FOC bolt on expired.
As said above, to stop it from sending/receiving data over the network, you need to go into Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network and then delete the APN under 'Cellular Data'. I did this, and my credit jumped back up again!?!
ISTR that deleting the APN is the only way to stop it from connecting - just changing it or mangling it doesn't make any difference and the phone was still able to connect!?!0 -
I had the same problem with my Palm Pre, I know it's a different phone and mine doesn't turn wifi off in sleep mode, it's just the rest of the day I had the issue, I just reduced the intervals when my phone received e-mails from every 2 minutes to every couple of hours, I then stopped the e-mail altogehter until I got a unlimited text and web package.0

ok thanks for the advice though it seems wrong that iphone can get away with eating your credit up! I don't have email uploaded on my phone so its not that, I guess i will just have to delete the cellular data0

Had the same problem, which just happened to be after I updated the iphone software to the 4.0 version last week, I'd had no problems prior to this. I've ended up playing £40 in top-ups in 1 week, an amount, I'd probably only spend in 1 year as I mostly just use my phone for texts and short calls. How are they getting away with this now and are refunds possible ?0

You may get goodwill gestures but i doubt you will get a full refund.
You will be told that you should have taken a more suitable tariff/bolt on for a data heavy phone, or told that you should have read about how to use your phone and prevent any automatic data connections.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
